Dermatomyositis and Malignancy

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1993
During the past 12 years, many studies applying strict diagnostic criteria have been published that have attempted to settle the controversy about the reality of the association between dermatomyositis and malignancy. Although retrospective, recent studies have shown an increased incidence of malignancy among patients with dermatomyositis when compared

Haploidentical transplantation using posttransplant cyclophosphamide as GVHD prophylaxis in patients over age 70

open access: yesBlood Advances, 2019
: Hematologic malignancies in older people are unlikely to be cured with chemotherapy alone. Advances in allogeneic blood or marrow transplantation (alloBMT), especially nonmyeloablative (NMA) conditioning and the use of haploidentical donors, now make ...

The roles of metabolic profiles and intracellular signaling pathways of tumor microenvironment cells in angiogenesis of solid tumors

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling, 2022
Innate and adaptive immune cells patrol and survey throughout the human body and sometimes reside in the tumor microenvironment (TME) with a variety of cell types and nutrients that may differ from those in which they developed.

Clinical Manifestations of Kaposi Sarcoma Herpesvirus Lytic Activation: Multicentric Castleman Disease (KSHV–MCD) and the KSHV Inflammatory Cytokine Syndrome

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Soon after the discovery of Kaposi sarcoma (KS)-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), it was appreciated that this virus was associated with most cases of multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) arising in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus.

Absence of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia in conization specimens from patients with colposcopic biopsy-confirmed high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia: Retrospective study of 1695 cases

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
Few studies have investigated the absence of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in excised specimens, and sample sizes of these studies were limited.

Daratumumab induces cell-mediated cytotoxicity of primary effusion lymphoma and is active against refractory disease

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2023
Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), an aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma caused by Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), lacks standard therapy and has a median survival of 10–22 months with combination chemotherapy. PEL is a tumor of plasmablast-like

Malignant hyperthermia [PDF]

open access: yesOrphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, 2007
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a pharmacogenetic disorder of skeletal muscle that presents as a hypermetabolic response to potent volatile anesthetic gases such as halothane, sevoflurane, desflurane and the depolarizing muscle relaxant succinylcholine, and rarely, in humans, to stresses such as vigorous exercise and heat.

Improved outcomes of acute lymphoblastic leukemia after allogeneic blood or marrow transplantation with high-dose post-transplantation cyclophosphamide in the era of more effective pre-transplant therapy

open access: yesHaematologica
The therapeutic landscape in ALL has changed dramatically over the last decade. Allogeneic blood or marrow transplantation (AlloBMT) has also evolved and remains an important option for consolidation.

C‐mannosylation promotes ADAMTS1 activation and secretion in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
C‐mannosylation is a unique form of protein glycosylation. In this study, we demonstrated that ADAMTS1 is C‐mannosylated at Trp562 and Trp565 in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells. We found that C‐mannosylation of ADAMTS1 is essential for its secretion, processing, enzymatic activity, and ability to promote vasculogenic mimicry. These findings
