Spindle Cell Lesions of the Breast: A 12‐Year Experience

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
This 12‐year, single‐centre study examined 30 core‐biopsy‐diagnosed breast spindle cell lesions (BrSCL), classified as atypical (ASCL, n = 10) or bland (BSCL, n = 20). Following excision, 80% of ASCLs proved malignant, comprising sarcoma, malignant phyllodes tumour and metaplastic carcinoma.

Malignant Phyllodes Tumor of the Breast: Treatment and Prognosis

open access: yesThe Breast Journal, 2014
Surgery remains the mainstay of the treatment in patients with malignant phyllodes tumor of the breast (MPTB); however, the extent of surgery (breast conserving surgery [BCS] versus mastectomy) and the role of adjuvant radiotherapy have been controversial. We report a single institution's experience with MPTB.

Apatinib treatment is effective for metastatic malignant phyllodes tumors of the breast: a case report

open access: yesBMC Women's Health, 2021
Background We report a rare case of malignant phyllodes tumors (MPT) with partial response to apatinib. Case presentation A 26-year-old woman had a palpable mass in her right breast for over a year.

A guide to transcriptional cyclin‐dependent kinases in cancer

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Transcriptional cyclin‐dependent‐kinases (tCDKs) facilitate gene expression by promoting RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) progression through discrete phases of the transcription cycle. Aberrant tCDK activity is detectable in different human cancers, thereby contributing to de‐regulated gene expression programs that drive oncogenic phenotypes.

Bilateral malignant phyllodes tumor of the breast

open access: yes, 2010
Phyllodes tumor is one of the breast-specific biphasic tumors, arising from the intra-lobular breast stroma. It constitutes less than 1%of all breast tumors.

Do alternative classification systems improve prognostication in phyllodes tumours of the breast? A comparative clinicopathological study

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
In this cohort, high stromal mitotic activity and malignant heterologous elements best predicted recurrence in breast phyllodes tumours. The WHO 5th Edition showed the strongest correlation with outcomes. Tan et al. showed near‐complete concordance, while the Refined Criteria overclassified malignancy without a clear prognostic refinement.

Recurrent malignant phyllodes tumor of the breast: An extremely rare case of recurrence with only rhabdomyosarcoma components

open access: yesSAGE Open Medical Case Reports, 2022
Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare disease that typically occurs in children. Rhabdomyosarcoma seldom occurs in the breast, and its diagnosis and treatment have infrequently been reported.

A Case Study on Giant Malignant Phyllodes Tumor of the Breast

open access: yes, 2021
Phyllodes tumor is a rare fibroepithelial tumor of the breast that account for less than 1% of all breast neoplasms [1]. Clinically, it is typically a large, smooth and fast-growing mass that forms from the periductal stroma of the breast [2].

Young Adult With Malignant Phyllodes Undergoing Adjuvant Radiotherapy With Bolus

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Malignant phyllodes tumor of the breast (MPTB) is a rare fibroepithelial tumor and very uncommon among young adult women. It has a higher likelihood of local recurrence (LR) compared to other phyllodes tumors of the breast. Due to limited data, there is no established consensus regarding adjuvant radiotherapy for MPTB.

A giant exulcerated phyllodes breast tumor a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Phyllodes tumors of the breast can be benign, malignant, or borderline. Benign and borderline tumors are rare tumor types that have a positive outlook and high survival rate, while the risk of recurrence is typical for malignant breast tumors.
