SPADE: A Deep Learning Framework for Spatial Mapping and Quantitative Cell–Cell Interaction Inference

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SPADE integrates spatial transcriptomics with single‐cell RNA sequencing by using cell–cell communications (CCC) as a guide for spatial mapping. It improves cell‐type localization, enhances sparse gene‐expression signals, and reveals CCC programs at single‐spot resolution.

Inhibition of KDEL Receptors Remodels the Tumor Microenvironment for T Cell Independent Tumor Regression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inhibition of KDELR2 in a small fraction of tumor cells generates sustainable immunogenic cell death conditions within the tumor microenvironment. These conditions promote the regression of tumors in a T cell independent manner. During regression, macrophages prime T cells that subsequently provide systemic protection against recurrence. The potency of

Adipocyte Myoglobin Is a Determinant of Energy Expenditure and a Potential Target to Limit Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Myoglobin, known as a muscle oxygen‐carrying protein, is shown to play a key role in fat cells that burn energy. Loss of myoglobin reduces the body's ability to generate heat and increases obesity risk, while restoring it improves metabolism. The study identifies myoglobin as a regulator of fat burning and a potential target to enhance energy ...

Histological and Morphometric Study of Lactating Mammary Glands in Sows

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
This work deals with the quantitative histological morphometric description of the mammary glands of sows during the stage of lactation. As experimental animals were used White meat breed pigs (5 animals) kept in standard conditions VÚŽV in Nitra.

Effect of cold exposure on energy budget and thermogenesis during lactation in Swiss mice raising large litters

open access: yesBiology Open, 2012
Summary In Swiss mice sustained energy intake (SusEI) during peak lactation has been previously suggested to be constrained by the capacity of the mammary glands to produce milk, supporting the “peripheral limitation” hypothesis.

Zebrafish and CRISPR—A synergistic approach to decipher and cure human diseases

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Zebrafish, with high genetic homology to humans, serves as a powerful vertebrate model for disease modeling and drug discovery. Integration of CRISPR/Cas9 technology enables precise genome editing, facilitating the development of translational models for human diseases.

Development of immunocompetent models for primary and metastatic ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study explores syngeneic, immunocompetent models of ER+ breast cancer in 129S6/SvEv mice, using trackable tumor cells to model both primary tumors and metastasis. The models show promise, while also revealing limitations for studying advanced disease and immune interactions.

Therapeutic Applications of Stimuli‐Based Release and Engineering of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the effects of endogenous and exogenous stimuli, their effects on the natural release of extracellular vesicles, as well as their uptake and release. It also gives an overview of stimuli‐responsive EVs and their therapeutic applications. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), nano‐ to microsized lipid bilayer membrane‐bound particles, are

Use of Restricted Nursing and a Bovine Appeasing Substance on the Welfare, Growth Performance, and Response to Vaccination of Beef Calves at Weaning

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.

Primary anorectal mammary-like adenocarcinoma: a potential diagnostic pitfall with conventional colorectal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesDiagnostic Pathology
Anogenital mammary-like glands (AGMLGs) are present in the anogenital region that bear striking morphologic and protein-expression similarities to mammary glands in the breast. AGMLGs can give rise to both benign and malignant lesions which mimic primary
