Skill or Effort? Institutional Ownership and Managerial Efficiency

Abstract Using a sample of U.S. firms during the 1989–2015 period, we study whether the efficiency with which managers generate revenue is sensitive to monitoring by institutional shareholders. We find that institutional ownership is positively related to managerial efficiency.

Airline efficiency is not a simple concept which can be measured by a single parameter. It is an amalgam of complex relationships which are in turn the results of many different activities. Probably because of this, efficiency criteria are mostly looked at in isolation which results in the overall concept of airline efficiency remaining nebulous.

Abstract The efficiency of 35 Brazilian domestic airports was discussed with a view to identifying avenues to improvement in two dimensions. The first of these is improved management, which shows in the airport’s ability to generate financial returns. The second is the physical dimension, which shows the level of utilization of airport infrastructure.
