Buccolingual and arch distribution patterns of permanent teeth impactions in an Egyptian population: a CBCT-based retrospective analysis

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background The prevalence of impacted teeth fluctuates across various ethnicities and geographical regions. Therefore, the aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of impacted permanent teeth, excluding third molars, in the Egyptian population,

Tailored Mandibular Advancement Therapy Guided Through a Mandibular Positioner: Predictive Value in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Mandibular advancement devices (MADs) are a recognized alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), though patient selection is still challenging. Tailored MAD guided through drug induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) with a mandibular titratable positioner (SAM) offers a stable and ...

Prognostic Value of Initial CT Imaging for Surgical Planning and Outcomes in Panfacial Fractures: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the reported prognostic value of initial computed tomography (CT) imaging for surgical planning and postoperative outcomes in panfacial fractures, and to determine whether CT‐derived variables have been consistently linked to clinically relevant outcomes.

Biology, ecology, and conservation of the Italian hare Lepus corsicanus: a review

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
The Italian hare Lepus corsicanus, an endemic lagomorph of Italy, serves as a critical case study in evolutionary biology and conservation. Once taxonomically debated, modern genetic and morphological analyses confirm its status as a distinct Pleistocene lineage restricted to the central‐southern Italian Peninsula and Sicily.

The Swanscombe fossil at 90: revisiting its phylogeny, taxonomy, and place in human origins Le fossile de Swanscombe, 90 ans après : retour sur sa place phylogénique, taxonomique et dans les origines de l'humanité

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
The year 2025 marked the ninetieth since a fossil hominin occipital bone was discovered in Swanscombe, southeast England. In subsequent years, its parietal bones were found, producing what remains the oldest partial cranium from Britain today. In the earliest analyses, it was interpreted as a descendant of the infamous fraudulent fossil Piltdown Man ...

A New Model of Feeding Biomechanics Based on Tied‐Arch Principles

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This new biomechanical model explains the major stress and strain patterns generated through the cranium during biting. The model proposes that the cranium resolves bite‐induced reaction forces through arcs of compressive stress that span the cranial structure between biting teeth and both jaw joints.

Female‐Biased Sexual Size Dimorphism and Its Potential Causes in Hairy‐Winged Bats

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Based on the integration of molecular genetics, traditional and geometric morphology, and acoustic characteristics of hairy‐winged bats (a species that was historically misclassified into two species due to extreme craniodental divergence between the sexes) in multiple regions of China, we quantified the sexual size dimorphism (SSD) between males and ...
