Three‐dimensional digital analysis of musteloid masticatory muscle architecture

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Musteloids span an enormous breadth of dietary modes within a single superfamily. In this study, we utilize digital dissection techniques to reconstruct the internal 3D anatomy of muscles within the musteloid feeding apparatus, and explore how dietary specializations might alter the size, orientation, and curvature of fascicles therein.

A STUDY ON THE MANDIBULAR MOVEMENTS OF TMD PATIENTS

open access: yes, 1994
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mandibular movements of TMD patients comparing to normal persons. Sirognathograph was used to measure five parameters of mandibular movements of twenty normal persons and eight TMD patients.

Wireless optoelectronic recordings of mandibular and associated head-neck movements in man : a methodological study

open access: yes, 2000
Human mandibular movements in space are the result of combined motions of the mandible and the head-neck. They can be simultaneously monitored by an optoelectronic recording technique via markers at different locations on the mandible and on the head ...

Bite force estimates and morphological correlations of jaw muscles in parrots

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Parrots (Order: Psittaciformes) are renowned for their high bite force (BF) and morphological correlates thereof, including a highly mobile skull and two unique mandibular adductor muscles—m. pseudomasseter and m. ethmomandibularis, with the former being hypothesized to increase force output.

Optimal positions of clear aligner attachments to achieve lower canine tipping and bodily movement using finite element analysis

open access: yesJournal of Dental Sciences
Background/purpose: Clear aligners are popular orthodontic tools because of their relatively aesthetic appearance and convenience of use. Nevertheless, bodily tooth movements still present challenges.

Craniofacial growth, modeling, and estimation of milestones

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding craniofacial growth is foundational for research into intra‐ and interspecies variation, evolution, and clinical care. The Craniofacial Growth Consortium Study (CGCS), combines cephalographs from historical growth studies to create a dense longitudinal record of growth from 6 to 22 years of age.

Postnatal craniomandibular growth in Harbor seals (Phoca vitulina vitulina)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Postnatal ontogeny in Harbor seals (Phoca vitulina vitulina). Cranium and mandible grow rapidly until 5 years of age, followed by a deceleration and finally a stagnation. Abstract As secondarily aquatic carnivores, seals display several phenotypic differences compared to their terrestrial relatives.

A new occurrence of tetrapod footprints from the Late Triassic of the Candelária Sequence, Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Hyperodapedon Assemblage Zone of the Candelária Sequence (Santa Maria Supersequence, Paraná Basin) preserves one of the most significant Late Triassic continental vertebrate assemblages in southern Brazil. Despite the relatively well‐documented body fossil record from this interval, ichnological records remain comparatively scarce.

Tridimensional evaluation of maxillary and mandibular movements in orthognathic surgery

open access: yes, 2007
For better evaluation of long-term results of orthognathic surgery, movements of osteotomized maxillary and mandibular segments should be documented both in x-, y-, and z-axes and in terms of kind of movement (either linear or rotational movements ...
