Anatomy and variation in the paraphyletic Mosasaurus lemonnieri assemblage from the Craie phosphatée de ciply, Belgium

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Nineteenth century excavations of the Ciply‐Malogne Phosphatic Chalk Formation in Hainaut, Belgium, yielded over 50 partial mosasaur skeletons, the majority of which were referred to the species Mosasaurus lemonnieri Dollo, 1889. In the years since, this taxon has experienced a complicated taxonomic history, and its exceptional hypodigm has ...

Cristid obliqua morphology as a correlate of diet in lorisoids

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Methods for elucidating dietary patterns from dental morphology have provided much insight into molar form, function, and diet in extinct taxa. However, many methods rely on the collection of homologous landmarks (like shearing crest lengths), or computationally intensive and nuanced metrics that capture shape (like dental topography). Here, a

Mandibular movements in speech: electrognathography in temporomandibular disorders and asymptomatic individuals

open access: yes, 2014
Os movimentos mandibulares utilizados na fala modificam os espaços para viabilizar as diversas posturas articulatórias próprias de cada som. As disfunções temporomandibulares podem acarretar alterações gerais nos movimentos mandibulares devido à ...

Dissecting the dissection laboratory: Elements for designing a human anatomy laboratory

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract The human anatomy dissection laboratory is a critical component of anatomical and medical education. Development, maintenance, and stocking of these laboratory spaces have unique demands, with all of the challenges in running a laboratory with Biosafety Laboratory Level 2 (BSL‐2) classification, housing a large volume of tissues saturated with

Analysis and prediction of condylar resorption following orthognathic surgery

open access: yesScientific Reports
Condylar resorption is a feared complication of orthognathic surgery. This study investigated condylar resorption in a cohort of 200 patients This allowed for a powerful update on incidence and risk factors. 9.5% of patients developed resorption.

Correlations Between Mandibular Kinematics and Electromyography During the Masticatory Cycle: An Observational Study by Digital Analysis

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The analysis of the masticatory cycle plays a fundamental role in studying the functions of the stomatognathic system and evaluating temporomandibular dysfunctions (TMD). The primary objective of this study is to investigate the complex interplay between

Learning beyond the lab: A gamified approach to anatomy education in a museum‐based experience

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Anatomy education, traditionally rooted in descriptive instruction and cadaveric dissection, is undergoing a significant transformation through the integration of educational technologies and contemporary pedagogical strategies. Among these, active learning methodologies, such as gamified‐based learning, have emerged as approaches designed to ...
