Hierarchical Artificial Muscle with Nonlinear Elasticity for Antagonistic and Cyclic Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We construct hierarchical muscles by plying nylon fibers around a heating wire. The hierarchical muscle shows a J‐shaped passive curve, which shows benefit in antagonistic muscle pair and work accumulation mechanism. We also develop a computational, first‐principle model to understand the physics of both active actuation stroke and passive J‐curve ...

Field-free spin-orbit torque switching of a perpendicular ferromagnet with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2019
Leveraging on interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) induced intrinsic magnetization tilting in nanostructures, a parametric window enabling field-free spin-orbit torque (SOT) magnetization switching in a perpendicular ferromagnet is ...

Bio‐templated Piezoresistive Yarn for High Sensitivity Movement Monitoring Textiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study developed a conductive coating by biotemplating silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) onto a Potato virus A (PV) particle network, cross‐linked on co‐polyamide‐starch (CoPA‐SS) coils. The combination of CoPA‐SS's shape memory and PV‐AgNP's piezoresistivity achieved high strain sensitivity and minimal hysteresis.

Fibers for hearts: A critical review on electrospinning for cardiac tissue engineering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cardiac cell therapy holds a real promise for improving heart function and especially of the chronically failing myocardium. Embedding cells into 3D biodegradable scaffolds may better preserve cell survival and enhance cell engraftment after ...

Upscaling Sodium‐Ion Battery Cells: From Aqueous Processing to Performance Assessment of Hard Carbon|Prussian White Pouch Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the feasibility of scaling up Prussian White (PW)‐based cathode manufacturing at a pilot scale. Through careful PW dehydration combined with optimized aqueous processing, we report the stepwise development of industrially relevant 1 Ah pouch cells and evaluate their performance under various conditions.

An experimental investigation of unstable combustion in solid propellant rocket motors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1960
Unstable combustion in solid propellant rocket motors is characterized by high frequency chamber pressure oscillations, often accompanied by changes in the mean burning rate.

Stable Neural Signal Recording Processed by Memristor‐Based Reservoir Computing System

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work introduces a memristor‐based reservoir computing (RC) system for real‐time, energy‐efficient processing of neural signals in brain‐machine interface (BMI). Combined with flexible mesh neural probes with tissue‐like flexibility and subcellular‐scale features that enable consistent, long‐term tracking of single‐cell neural activities, the ...

Rapidly solidified NiAl and FeAl [PDF]

open access: yes
Melt spinning was used to produce rapidly solidified ribbons of the B2 intermetallics NiAl and FeAl. Both Fe-40Al and Fe-45Al possessed some bend ductility in the as spun condition.
