Measuring maternal line selection driven by differential survival in ex situ collections for plant conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Ex situ plant collections may be increasingly needed to protect representative samples of threatened or rare species and provide plant material for conservation translocation. A primary problem in these ex situ collections is loss of intraspecific variation due to plant death. Different management actions would be required depending on whether

Natural history and conservation of the Nurse Frog of the Serranía del Perijá Allobates ignotus (Dendrobatoidea: Aromobatidae) in northeastern Colombia

open access: yesActa Herpetologica, 2018
We describe new findings on the geographic distribution, habitat uses, relative abundance, tadpoles, and advertisement call of Allobates ignotus. Data of habitat uses and relative abundance were collected during five annual fieldtrips of seven days each ...

Citizen‐Science Camera Trap Data Reveal Large‐Scale Activity Patterns of the Bobcat (Lynx rufus) Across Mexican Ecosystems

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
We evaluated whether citizen science–derived camera‐trap records can be used to characterize large‐scale activity patterns of a widely distributed mesocarnivore across heterogeneous landscapes. Using 821 independent iNaturalist records, we quantified activity across six major vegetation types in Mexico with kernel density estimation, circular ...

Recovery of Seed Quality and Germination Success Following Severe Wildfires in Araucaria araucana Forests of the Southern Andes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
We assessed post‐fire germination of Araucaria araucana in the southern Andes and found that seed viability and germination increased markedly (from 65% to 90%) between 1 and 8 years after a severe wildfire. Improved germination at longer time‐since‐fire reflects a recovery of reproductive capacity in this ecologically and culturally significant ...
