‘Incoherence Is, in a Way, a Choice’: The Production of Policy Coherence at the Intersection of Uruguay's Agricultural, Environmental and Water Policies

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, Volume 36, Issue 2, Page 365-384, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This study explores the production of coherence between Uruguay's agricultural, environmental and water policies amidst growing tensions, which are particularly manifested in conflicts between an expanding agricultural sector and water insecurity for the broader public.

Threats to and management of Natura 2000 protected areas relative to agricultural practices

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract The Natura 2000 (N2K) network combines biodiversity protection and socioeconomic targets. Human activities, such as agricultural practices, can affect biodiversity in N2K sites in diverse ways. Limiting activities with negative impacts while enforcing land management that supports biodiversity is crucial for effective conservation.

Prácticas sustentables, alternativas para la conservación del suelo en Agave tequilana Weber

open access: yesNova Scientia
En la escala comercial, las plantaciones de agave azul tequilero (Agave tequilana Weber var. azul) han requerido grandes extensiones de tierra para satisfacer demandas del mercado, plantado como monocultivo extensivo a fin de producir la materia prima ...

Successional and native forests predict the occurrence and infection status of Chagas disease vectors in Panama

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
Findings here show that successional forest predicts greater kissing bug infestation risk in palm trees, whereas native forest predicts lower kissing bug occurrence but greater infection with T. cruzi. These insights can guide land use planning towards vegetation management practices that help minimize T. cruzi transmission risks for rural communities.

Spatial Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination in Agricultural Soils of the Lower Chancay–Huaral Valley, Peru

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Soil Science, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Soil contamination by heavy metals (HMs) poses a potential threat to agricultural productivity and food security, particularly in rapidly developing coastal regions. This study evaluates the spatial distribution and contamination levels of cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn) in agricultural soils from the Huaral, Chancay,

Soil Organic Carbon Variability in Tropical Cropping Systems: Interactions With Texture, pH, Macronutrients, and Organic Matter

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change and enhancing soil fertility. Its storage and dynamics are particularly significant in agricultural ecosystems of the Peruvian Amazon, where the expansion of agriculture and livestock farming may disrupt the regional carbon balance.

Marked tree demographic variation along subtle elevation differences partially explains species' habitat associations in an Amazonian forest

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 10, Page 2860-2874, October 2025.
These findings show that even small differences in elevation can lead to biologically meaningful variation in resource access that translates into significant differences in tree growth and survival. However, resource access could not fully explain the patterns of topographically driven demographic variation we observed. While certain species may still
