Pest categorisation of Sternochetus mangiferae [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2018
The European Commission requested EFSA to conduct a pest categorisation of Sternochetus mangiferae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), a monophagous pest weevil whose larvae exclusively feed on mango seeds, whereas adults feed on mango foliage. S. mangiferae is a species with reliable methods available for identification.

Hidden O‐Deglycosylation Activity Triggers O → C Rearrangement for Aryl Di‐C‐Glucoside Formation by the C‐Glycosyltransferase From Fortunella crassifolia

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
Here, we uncovered an unexpected O‐deglycosylation activity of the C glycosyltransferase (FcCGT), forming phloretin (1) from phloretin 2'‐O‐glucoside (2). In the presence of UDP, FcCGT catalyzes the O→C rearrangement to yield nothofagin (3). Upon additional UDP‐glucose, further C‐glycosylation occurs, forming phloretin 3',5'‐di‐C‐glucoside (4 ...

The impacts of biological invasions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Anthropocene is characterised by a continuous human‐mediated reshuffling of the distributions of species globally. Both intentional and unintentional introductions have resulted in numerous species being translocated beyond their native ranges, often leading to their establishment and subsequent spread – a process referred to as biological
