Manic‐Depressive Illness and HLA

open access: yesTissue Antigens, 1977
One‐hundred‐and‐eighteen cases of manic‐depressive illness, subclassified into 68 unipolars and 50 bipolars, were typed for HLA‐A and B. Both groups showed the same antigen frequencies, with the exception of a slight increase of HLA‐B15 in bipolar patients. The incidence of HLA‐Bw15 was reduced in affectively ill patients as compared to controls.
