CL‐11 circulates in serum as functionally distinct isoforms

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 38, Issue 5, 15 March 2024.
CL‐11 is a pattern recognition molecule that interacts with CL‐10 and the MASPs to activate the lectin pathway of the complement system. CL‐11 is found circulating in blood as isoforms A (full length) and D (with a shorter collagen‐like region caused by the lack of exon 4).

Complement in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis: functional screening and quantitative analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background The complement system is vital for innate immunity and is implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases and the mechanism of host defense. Complement deficiencies occasionally cause life-threatening diseases.

Advances in the treatment of IgA nephropathy with biological agents

open access: yesChronic Diseases and Translational Medicine, Volume 10, Issue 1, Page 1-11, March 2024.
Pathogenesis of immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy: four‐hit mechanism. Gld‐IgA1, galactose‐deficient IgA1. Hit 1: production of Gld‐IgA1 by a subpopulation of IgA1‐secreting cells. Hit 2: circulating antibodies directed against Gld‐IgA1. Hit 3: formation of pathogenic Gld‐IgA1‐containing immune complexes.

Differential Role of the Lectin Pathway of Complement Activation in Susceptibility to Neonatal Sepsis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background. The incidence of bacterial sepsis during the neonatal period is high. Mannan-binding lectin (MBL), L-ficolin, and H-ficolin recognize microorganisms and activate the complement system viaMBL-associated serine proteases (MASPs).

Molecular basis of sugar recognition by collectin-K1 and the effects of mutations associated with 3MC syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background Collectin-K1 (CL-K1, or CL-11) is a multifunctional Ca2+-dependent lectin with roles in innate immunity, apoptosis and embryogenesis. It binds to carbohydrates on pathogens to activate the lectin pathway of complement and together with its ...

High‐Mannose Oligosaccharide Hemimimetics that Recapitulate the Conformation and Binding Mode to Concanavalin A, DC‐SIGN and Langerin

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 2, January 8, 2024.
The “carbohydrate chemical mimicry” of sp2‐iminosugars enables the synthesis of high‐mannose‐type oligosaccharide analogs whose solution and lectin bound conformations match those of the natural partners. Upon multivalent presentation, enhanced affinities towards ConA, DC‐SIGN and langerin are achieved, with distinct selectivity profiles. Abstract The “

Mannan-Binding Lectin Suppresses Peptidoglycan-Induced TLR2 Activation and Inflammatory Responses

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2019
Peptidoglycan (PGN), as the major components of the bacterial cell wall, is known to cause excessive proinflammatory cytokine production. Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) is abundantly expressed on immune cells and has been shown to be involved in PGN-induced

Herpes simplex encephalitis in adult patients with MASP-2 deficiency.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2019
We report here two cases of Herpes simplex virus encephalitis (HSE) in adult patients with very rare, previously uncharacterized, non synonymous heterozygous G634R and R203W substitution in mannan-binding lectin serine protease 2 (MASP2), a gene encoding

Mannan-Binding Lectin Attenuates Inflammatory Arthritis Through the Suppression of Osteoclastogenesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Mannan-binding lectin (MBL) is a vital element in the host innate immune system, which is primarily produced by the liver and secreted into the circulation. Low serum level of MBL is reported to be associated with an increased risk of arthritis. However,

Isolation and expression of a novel MBL-like collectin cDNA enhanced by LPS injection in the body wall of the ascidian Ciona intestinalis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Collectins are a family of calcium-dependent lectins that are characterized by their collagen-like domains. Considerable interest has been focused on this class of proteins because of their ability to interact with components of the complement system ...
