The Biosynthesis of Mannan in Saccharomyces carlsbergensis

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1968
Abstract A particulate preparation obtained by lysing yeast protoplasts was found to catalyze the incorporation of radioactivity from guanosine diphosphate 14C-mannose into a mannose polysaccharide. The km for guanosine diphosphate mannose is 0.5 mm, and the optimum pH is between 5.5 and 7.2. There is an almost absolute requirement of Mn++ for activity,

Serological Specificity of Yeast Mannan [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1969
SUMMARY: Soluble serologically active preparations extracted by various methods from Saccharomyces spp. showed the group specificity previously detected by agglutination tests with whole cells. The antigenic properties of the four serological groups of the genus Saccharomyces are probably determined by the cell wall mannan.

Conservation of Mannan Synthesis in Fungi of the Zygomycota and Ascomycota Reveals a Broad Diagnostic Target

open access: yesmSphere, 2018
Ascomycetes and zygomycetes account for the majority of (i) fungi responsible for cutaneous, subcutaneous, and invasive human fungal infections, (ii) plant fungal pathogens, (iii) fungi that threaten global biodiversity, (iv) fungal agents of ...

Guar gum as galactomannan source induces dysbiosis and reduces performance in broiler chickens and dietary β-mannanase restores the gut homeostasis

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2023
: Galactomannans are abundant nonstarch polysaccharides in broiler feed ingredients. In broilers, diets with high levels of galactomannans have been associated with innate immune response stimulation, poor zootechnical performance, nutrient and lipid ...

The Living Fossil Psilotum nudum Has Cortical Fibers With Mannan-Based Cell Wall Matrix

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Cell wall thickening and development of secondary cell walls was a major step in plant terrestrialization that provided the mechanical support, effective functioning of water-conducting elements and fortification of the surface tissues.

Mannan oligosaccharide requires functional ETC and TLR for biological radiation protection to normal cells

open access: yesBMC Cell Biology, 2018
Background Low LET Ionizing radiation is known to alter intracellular redox balance by inducing free radical generation, which may cause oxidative modification of various cellular biomolecules. The extent of biomolecule-modifications/ damages and changes

Mannan Enhances IL-12 Production by Increasing Bacterial Uptake and Endosomal Degradation in L. acidophilus and S. aureus Stimulated Dendritic Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
The mannose receptor (MR) is a C-type lectin involved in endocytosis and with a poorly defined ability to modulate cellular activation. We investigated the effect of mannan treatment prior to stimulation of murine bone marrow-derived dendritic cells with
