Serological Specificity of Yeast Mannan [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1969
SUMMARY: Soluble serologically active preparations extracted by various methods from Saccharomyces spp. showed the group specificity previously detected by agglutination tests with whole cells. The antigenic properties of the four serological groups of the genus Saccharomyces are probably determined by the cell wall mannan.

Effect of Some Biopolymers on the Rheological Behavior of Surimi Gel

open access: yesMolecules, 2012
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of selected biopolymers on the rheological properties of surimi. In our paper, we highlight the functional properties and rheological aspects of some starch mixtures used in surimi.

The role of oligosaccharides and polysaccharides of xylan and mannan in gut health of monogastric animals

open access: yesJournal of Nutritional Science, 2020
Apart from its role as a digestive and absorptive organ, the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a vital immune organ that encompasses roughly 70 % of the total immune cells of the body.

Stimulation of Interferon Production by Mannans

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1970
SummaryFour preparations of purified mannans from C. albicans Berkhout, one purified mannan from S. cerevisiae, a lipid fraction from C. albicans Berkhout, and eight polysaccharide-protein complexes from the same microorganism were tested for interferon-stimulating activity in explanted mouse peritoneal leukocytes. Whereas the mannan from S. cerevisiae

Cis‐unsaturated sphingolipids support growth of sphingoid base‐deficient yeast but impair plasma membrane integrity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Sphingoid base structures, the sphingolipid backbones, vary among species. We established yeast cells in which the native sphingoid base was replaced with plant‐type bases containing cis or trans double bonds. This is, to our knowledge, the first eukaryotic model mostly composed of sphingolipids containing cis‐unsaturated sphingoid base, providing a ...

Mannans: Obtaining from the cell walls of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast and assessing their adjuvant properties in a subunit vaccine model

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica
Background. Polysaccharides are known to possess adjuvant properties, they are biodegradable, safe, and are of low-labor production. In this regard, the development of polysaccharide-based adjuvants is an urgent task. The aim.

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

On the utilization of salep mannan

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1919
Some experiments on the utilization of salep mannan were reported in 1911.1 It was found that this anhydride of mannose was not hydrolyzed by the enzymes of saliva, pancreatic and intestinal juice, nor by malt diastase, but disappeared almost completely from the human alimentary tract when eaten, the coefficient of digestibility in three out of four ...

Techno‐Economic Analysis of Polylactic Acid from Corn Stover: Understanding Uncertainty and Variability via Artificial Intelligence Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
This study analyses the uncertainty and variability existing in the economic performance of polylactic acid (PLA) production, via integrating techno‐economic analysis with process models and Monte Carlo simulation enabled by artificial intelligence. The results show that the minimum selling price varies from $2,107 to $3076/t PLA.

The MNN2 Gene Knockout Modulates the Antifungal Resistance of Biofilms of Candida glabrata

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2018
Candida glabrata biofilms are recognized to have high resistance to antifungals. In order to understand the effect of mannans in the resistance profile of C. glabrata mature biofilms, C. glabrata Δmnn2 was evaluated. Biofilm cell walls were analysed
