Upper Cretaceous weakly to strongly silica-undersaturated alkaline dike series of the Mantiqueira Range, Serra do Mar alkaline province: Crustal assimilation processes and mantle source signatures [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Geology, 2018
ABSTRACT: Three series of alkaline dikes are characterized in a restricted area of the Mantiqueira Range: a weakly silica-undersaturated series (normative ne < 7), of potassic character, represented by basanite, tephrites, alkali basalts, basaltic trachyandesites, phonotephrites, tephriphonolites, and trachyandesites, an intermediate series (7 ...

Patterns of understorey bird diversity across Amazonian forests: survey effort and range maps predict local species richness

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 3, March 2026.
Species diversity typically increases from higher to lower latitudes, but the regional‐scale variation along this geographic gradient remains unclear. It has been suggested that species diversity throughout Amazonia generally increases westward toward the Andes, but this pattern and its environmental determinants require further investigation for most ...

Neoarchean Arc Magmatism and Crust Recycling in the Northern Marginal Zone of the Limpopo Complex, Zimbabwe: New Insights From Zircon U‐Pb‐Hf Isotopes of a Charnockite Suite

open access: yesGeological Journal, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 566-592, March 2026.
Charnockites with 2691–2607 Ma magmatic ages from the NMZ show arc‐magmatic geochemical signatures. They correspond to the lower‐crustal equivalent of the Chilimanzi Suite Granite in the Zimbabwe Craton. Lu‐Hf isotopic data of magmatic zircons show negative εHf(t) values (−11.18 to −2.20) with TDMC ages of 3699–3158 Ma, suggesting their protolith ...

Beyond Ecology: How Environmental and Social Landscapes Shape Tropical Forest Restoration in Southeast Brazil

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
Restoration was more associated with environmental variables than socioeconomics. Active restoration was utilized in degraded areas and pasture abandonment favored natural regeneration. Successful tropical restoration is dependent on a complex interdependent mix of factors.

Influence of forest cover and sex on wing size and shape of a spider‐hunting wasp in the Brazilian Atlantic forest

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, Page 165-176, February 2026.
Forest cover significantly influences the wing shape of female Trypoxylon lactitarse. Females exhibit longer and narrower wings, linked to greater flight efficiency and dispersal. Sexual dimorphism indicates that females respond differently to ecological pressures, underscoring the role of forest cover in species persistence.

Description of the immature stages of Leptonema tridens (Insecta: Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae) from southeastern Brazil with notes on its biology

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2010
The larva and pupa of Leptonema tridens Mosely, 1933 are described and illustrated. Larvae of L. tridens can be distinguished from other described larvae of Leptonema Guérin, 1843 mainly by the rodlike setae of the labrum and the forecoxa lacking ...

‘Dispersification’ of Agalinis (Orobanchaceae) Into South America Is Associated With Hummingbird Pollination and Perennial Life‐History Shifts

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Several mechanisms contribute to the plant biodiversity of the Neotropics, with the highlands of South America serving as important hotspots of diversity. In particular, the Brazilian highlands exhibit high biodiversity due to complex diversification dynamics and a mixture of contributions from different biomes.

Spatial distribution of top soil water content in an experimental catchment of Southeast Brazil Distribuição espacial da umidade superficial do solo em uma bacia hidrográfica experimental do Sudeste do Brasil

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2011
Soil water content is essential to understand the hydrological cycle. It controls the surface runoff generation, water infiltration, soil evaporation and plant transpiration.
