Dispersal, source and glass chemistry of a third tephra unit within Iceland's Settlement Layer
Tephra layers may be studied to understand the dynamics and sequence of past explosive volcanism. In Iceland, the distinctive Settlement Layer (AD ~877) underlies almost all archaeological evidence for the Norse Settlement and is preserved in soils across Iceland and as cryptotephra overseas.

A XENOLITH-BASED LITHOSPHERIC TRANSECT OF THE SLAVE CRATON, N.W.T., CANADA [PDF]
During the last decade, the Canadian Slave craton has emerged as an important global diamond resource. Recent work on the sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) beneath this craton has yielded tantalising suggestions about its structure and ...

Ultra-refractory Domains in the Oceanic Mantle Lithosphere Sampled as Mantle Xenoliths at Ocean Islands [PDF]
Many peridotite xenoliths sampled at ocean islands appear to have strongly refractory major element and modal compositions. To better constrain the chemistry, abundance and origin of these ultrarefractory rocks we compiled a large number of data for xenoliths from nine groups of ocean islands. The xenoliths were filtered petrographically for signs of ...

Re-os isotope constraints on the age of the Lithospheric mantle beneath western Greenland. [PDF]
Alkaline magmatic activity across Western Greenland (W.G.) provides a record of lithosphere evolution over the last 600 Ma. Ultra Mafic Lamprophyre (UML) magmatism in particular has erupted an exceptional inventory of mantle xenoliths allowing a detailed

Garnet peridotite xenoliths have been rarely reported from suboceanic mantle. Petrographic and geochemical characteristics of garnet-bearing oceanic peridotite xenoliths provide precious information on dynamics of the suboceanic lithosphere and ...

Ultramafic magmas (MgO ≥ 18 wt%) are generally thought to be primary mantle melts formed at temperatures in excess of 1600 °C. Volatile contents are expected to be low, and accordingly, high-Mg magmas generally do not yield large explosive ...

Time constraints on the formation of lithospheric mantle beneath cratons: a re-Os isotope and platinum group element study of peridotite xenoliths from northern Canada and Lesotho, [PDF]
Understanding the generation and evolution of cratonic lithospheric keels requires detailed knowledge of their age, timescale of formation, and the relationship between the crust and mantle part of the lithosphere.

XENOLITHS OF POLYMICTIC BRECCIAS FROM KIMBERLITES OF THE YAKUTIAN DIAMONDIFEROUS PROVINCE
The polymictic breccias, extremely rare mantle conglomerates being the fragments of rocks and large mantle minerals cemented with fine-grained mass have been long provoking interest of petrologists worldwide.

Allanite in Mantle Eclogite Xenoliths
Abstract Rare-Earth Elements (REE) are key geochemical tracers of crust–mantle differentiation, but there are few direct data on REE-rich minerals in mantle rocks. Here, we report the combined petrography and comprehensive chemical and isotopic characterization of three coesite- and kyanite-bearing eclogite xenoliths from the Udachnaya ...
