MANURE VALUE AND LIVEWEIGHT SWINE DECISIONS [PDF]

open access: yes
Produced as a joint product, economic theory suggests that manure value could influence livestock management decisions such as herd size and optimal market weights. This study examines the concept of manure and its connection with optimal replacement age

Effects of long-term farmyard manure applications on soil organic matter, nitrogen mineralization and crop yield – a modeling study – [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
To develop sustainable cropping systems we need to predict both short-term and long-term effects of management practices on soil fertility. For this purpose agro-ecosystem simulation models are valuable tools.

Yield‐Dependent Allocation Functions Overestimate Root‐Derived Carbon Inputs in Wheat and Maize

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Root‐derived carbon (C) inputs for wheat and maize were estimated using the yield‐based allocation functions of Bolinder et al. and Jacobs et al. Comparison with measured root C showed systematic overestimation that becomes larger as predicted C increases.

Classical Batch Distillation of Anaerobic Digestate to Isolate Ammonium Bicarbonate: Membrane Not Necessary!

open access: yesBioengineering
The excessive mineralization of organic molecules during anaerobic fermentation increases the availability of nitrogen and carbon. For this reason, the development of downstream processing technologies is required to better manage ammonia and carbon ...

Substitutability of Livestock Manure for Chemical Fertilizer: A Contingent Valuation Analysis of Crop Producers [PDF]

open access: yes
The impact of new manure management regulations depends on the willingness of crop producers to accept manure. A contingent valuation analysis of crop producers was used to estimate the willingness of crop producers to accept or pay for manure.

Manure helps feed the world: Integrated Manure Management demonstrates manure is a valuable resource [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Overview of Integrated Manure Management Integrated Manure Management is the optimal handling of livestock manure from collection, through storage and treatment up to application (crops and aquaculture).

Interaction Between Nitrogen Forms, Phosphorus Forms, and Mineral Phases Drives Phosphorus Limitation and Uptake by Ryegrass in a Model System

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen addition shifts plant nutrition from nitrogen to phosphorus (P) limitation. Nitrate‐based nitrogen enhances P acquisition more effectively than ammonium through increased phosphatase activity, independently of pH changes. Organic P forms induce stronger P limitation than inorganic P.

Advances in Biorefinery of Cattle Manure for Value-Added Products

open access: yesFermentation
A large amount of cattle manure is generated in the US every year, creating challenges for ecosystem sustainability while offering opportunities for value-added products through biorefinery.

Improving barley yields in organic stockless farming systems through innovations in green manure management [PDF]

open access: yes
Low and fluctuating yield levels of barley on stockless farms converted to organic farming shows that organic feed barley production in Norway is a challenge.

Modelling manure NPK flows in organic farming systems to minimise nitrate leaching, ammonia volatilization and nitrous oxide emissions (OF0197) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Manure is an important source of organic matter and nutrients in organic farming systems, principally nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K).
