An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Synaptic plasticity via receptor tyrosine kinase/G-protein-coupled receptor crosstalk

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Cellular signaling involves a large repertoire of membrane receptors operating in overlapping spatiotemporal regimes and targeting many common intracellular effectors.

Virtual screening and evaluation of heterocyclic 1, 5-benzothiazepines compounds against MAP kinase protein

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy Research, 2013
Abstract Hetrocyclic 1, 5-benzothiazepines compounds were synthesized and screened for drug likeness property using Lipinski's rule of five. Among 20 compounds of benzothiazepine three compounds were further evaluated for the conformation based molecular docking studies using lib dock.

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Stimulation of MAP kinase pathways after maternal IL-1β exposure induces fetal lung fluid absorption in guinea pigs

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2007
Background We tested the hypothesis that maternal interleukin-1β (IL-1β) pretreatment and induction of fetal cortisol synthesis activates MAP kinases and thereby affects lung fluid absorption in preterm guinea pigs.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Hormonally upregulated neu tumor-associated kinase (HUNK) modulates gastric cancer progression through the regulation of cell homeostasis

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling
Gastric cancer (GC) is a neoplasia with an increase in incidence and mortality over the next years. Currently, the treatment of this malignancy consists of surgery in association with the administration of platinum compounds or 5-FU capecitabine.

The Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) TDY1 Gene Encodes a Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Homolog

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 1999
Development of root nodules, specifically induction of cortical cell division for nodule initiation, requires expression of specific genes in the host and microsymbiont. A full-length cDNA clone and the corresponding genomic clone encoding a MAP (mitogen-
