A map of human circular RNAs in clinically relevant tissues

open access: yesJournal of molecular medicine, 2017
Cellular circular RNAs (circRNAs) are generated by head-to-tail splicing and are present in all multicellular organisms studied so far. Recently, circRNAs have emerged as a large class of RNA which can function as post-transcriptional regulators.

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Experiences of participating in a group-based sensory modulation intervention for mental health service users

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy
Background People with mental health issues often experience difficulties with sensory modulation affecting occupational engagement. Research conducted in inpatient units has shown positive effects of individual sensory modulation interventions, however,

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Adaptive data-driven age and patch mixing in contact networks with recurrent mobility

open access: yesMethodsX, 2022
Infectious disease transmission models often stratify populations by age and geographic patches. Contact patterns between age groups and patches are key parameters in such models. Arenas et al.

Consensus on precision medicine for metastatic cancers: a report from the MAP conference.

open access: yesAnnals of Oncology, 2016
Recent advances in biotechnologies have led to the development of multiplex genomic and proteomic analyses for clinical use. Nevertheless, guidelines are currently lacking to determine which molecular assays should be implemented in metastatic cancers ...

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Getting Histoplasmosis on the Map of International Recommendations for Patients with Advanced HIV Disease

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2019
Progressive disseminated histoplasmosis, caused by H. capsulatum, is a life-threatening illness and is an AIDS-defining opportunistic infection. It is neglected, worryingly under-diagnosed, and often misdiagnosed as cancer or tuberculosis with fatal ...
