First and second eye cataract surgery and driver self-regulation among older drivers with bilateral cataract: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics, 2018
Background Driving a car is the most common form of transport among the older population. Common medical conditions such as cataract, increase with age and impact on the ability to drive.

Generation of silicone poly-HIPES with controlled pore sizes via reactive emulsion stabilization

open access: yes, 2016
Macrocellular silicone polymers are obtained after solidification of the continuous phase of a PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) emulsion, which contains PEG (polyethylene glycol) drops of sub-millimetric dimensions. Coalescence of the liquid template emulsion

Deterministic Detection of Single Ion Implantation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam implantation with high detection efficiencies will enable the rapid and scalable fabrication of advanced spin‐based technologies such as qubits. This work presents the detection efficiencies of a wide range of ions implanted into solid‐state hosts, with efficiencies of >90% recorded for ion species and substrate combinations of ...

Evaluation of MHOST analysis capabilities for a plate element [PDF]

open access: yes
Results of the evaluation of the static, buckling, and free vibration analyses capabilities of MHOST for the plate elements are presented. Two large scale, general purpose finite element codes (MARC and MSC/NASTRAN) are used to validate MHOST ...

Stable covalently photo-cross-linked poly(ionic liquid) membrane with gradient pore size

open access: yes, 2017
An imidazolium-based poly(ionic liquid) is covalently cross-linked via UV light-induced thiolene (click) chemistry to yield a stable porous polyelectrolyte membrane with gradients of crosslink density and pore size distribution along its cross-section ...

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Marc Bloch

open access: yesHistoria y Sociedad, 1999

Rational Fine‐Tuning of MOF Pore Metrics: Enhanced SO2 Capture and Sensing with Optimal Multi‐Site Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A pore tuning strategy to amplify the multi‐site MOF‐SO2 interactions is proposed to achieve an enhanced trace SO2 capture and chemiresistive sensing in highly stable isostructural DMOFs by annelating benzene rings. This work provides a facile strategy to achieve tailor‐made stable MOF materials for specific multifunctional applications.

Infants discriminate the source of social touch at stroking speeds eliciting maximal firing rates in CT-fibers

open access: yesDevelopmental Cognitive Neuroscience, 2019
The evaluation of interpersonal touch is heavily influenced by its source. For example, a gentle stroke from a loved one is generally more pleasant than the same tactile stimulation from a complete stranger.

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.
