Regional and Compartmental Changes Drive Progressive Patterns of Striatal Degeneration in X‐Linked Dystonia Parkinsonism

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Initially described in 1976, X‐linked dystonia parkinsonism (XDP) is a neurodegenerative disease that can be characterized by the presentation of dystonia and parkinsonism symptoms. Although this disease bears some resemblance to other neurodegenerative diseases in terms of symptomatology, the pathological signature of XDP is still unclear ...

Neurotransmitter‐Defined Degeneration Patterns in Sporadic and C9orf72‐Associated Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Predilection to GABAergic, Serotonergic, Opioid, Glutamatergic, Endocannabinoid, and Microglial Systems—Implications for Therapy Development

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) has a markedly distinctive clinical and neuroradiological signature, with the preferential involvement of specific brain networks and the apparent sparing of others. The molecular underpinnings of the strikingly selective anatomical vulnerability have not been fully elucidated to date despite the potential ...

Microenvironment Engineering as a Design Principle for Suppressing Catalyst Metal Loss

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Under ionomer‐containing microenvironments, nonporous carbon supports enhance the retention of dissolved platinum ions, whereas porous carbon supports promote pore‐confined redeposition and mitigate net platinum loss. ABSTRACT Stability losses in platinum electrocatalysts arise from dissolution, redeposition, and restructuring processes that are ...

Rhenium‐Based β‐Galactosidase Probe Allows Senescence Profiling by Mass Cytometry

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Senescence‐associated β‐galactosidase (SA‐β‐Gal) activity is a widely accepted biomarker of cellular senescence, yet its integration with other senescence markers has been limited by available detection methods. Here, we introduce ReGal, a mass cytometry‐compatible SA‐β‐Gal activity probe that can be multiplexed with established markers of senescence ...

Step‐Associated Cu‐Ceria Interfaces Enhance Catalytic Activity and Selectivity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The catalytic activity and selectivity of supported Cu nanoparticles depends on their interfacial environments, with Cu nanoparticles at step‐associated environments converting CO2 to methanol much faster than those on terrace facets, indicating that step sites create more active metal–oxide interfaces.
