HEDONIC VALUATION OF PROXIMITY TO NATURAL AREAS AND FARMLAND IN DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA [PDF]
Open space may provide a variety of environmental services, such as flood control, prevention of soil erosion, storage and recycling of wastes, and scenic views, which do not have traditional market values.

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

Plant growth promoting bacteria in the endo- and rhizosphere of halophyte Cakile maritima Scop.
Beneficial bacteria adapted to hypersaline conditions represent a promising biotechnological tool for enhancing crop productivity in salt-affected agricultural systems, particularly as soil salinization constitutes an increasingly critical global ...

MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC PLANTS OF MARGINAL AREAS
Marginal agricultural lands; These are lands opened to agriculture due to local importance or local needs, other than absolute agricultural lands, special crop lands and planted agricultural lands. These lands have many soil and topographical limitations and their agricultural production potential is quite low.

A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Micronutrient strategies for marginal areas
Micronutrient deficiencies in human nutrition, especially of iron and zinc, occur often in marginal mountain regions. The main cause is poverty, resulting in low nutrient diets. Poor nutrition is one of the main causes of major health problems, especially among children.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Community Resilience and Tourism Development. The Case of Marginal Areas [PDF]
The chapter discusses the concept of community resilience in relation to tourism, with a main focus on marginal areas. The aim here is to present how tourism development in marginal areas can contribute to the development of resilience within the local ...
