Excision Margins for Nonmelanotic Skin Cancer
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2003Scientific evidence for advisable excision margins for nonmelanotic skin carcinoma is poorly documented. Recommended excision margins vary from 2 to 15 mm. A prospective study was performed on 150 skin lesions excised over a 9-month period in an outpatient facility at the authors' institution. Primary nonmelanotic skin lesions were clinically diagnosed

Wider excision margins for malignant melanoma
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2011With regard to the paper ‘Update on melanoma: the present osition’1 by Godden et al. published in this journal in 2009, it as stated that the recommended excision margins for in situ arcinoma are 2–5 mm and 2 cm for a melanoma of Breslow hickness of 2.01–4 mm.

Safe Margins for Melanoma Excision
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1985The oft-quoted 5-cm rule for melanoma excision is not valid. Substitute guidelines are offered and their scientific basis is discussed. A 1-2-3-cm rule is carefully outlined in terms of maximum rather than minimum margins, because little evidence exists to support the importance of wide excision limits in the treatment of melanoma.

MELANOMA OF THE FACE: THE SAFETY OF NARROW EXCISION MARGINS
Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Hand Surgery, 1997Recent studies have shown that narrower excision margins may be safe, but the optimal or minimum margin for melanoma is unknown. Wide margins of excision are possible on the trunk and limbs, but functional and cosmetic constraints often limit the extent of excision on the face.

The Influence of Surgical Excision Margins on Keloid Prognosis
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2010Keloid disease is known to have variable clinical behavior in response to therapy and there is no clinicopathologic classification that predicts such varied behavior. The aim of this study was to study the effect of excision margins and other histopathologic characteristics on keloid prognosis.Seventy-five multiethnic patients presenting with keloid ...

Advances in Anatomic Pathology, 1999
The histopathologic status of excisional margins of malignant neoplasms has long been used as a potential indicator for recurrences and prognosis. The predictive ability of the margin, however, is far from satisfactory. Perhaps nowhere else in oncologic pathology has the significance of these margins been as intensively studied as in squamous cell ...

Surgical excision margin for primary acral melanoma
Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2016Background and ObjectivesThis study aimed to evaluate treatment outcomes of acral melanoma (AM) based on the excision margin.MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted for patients with primary AM, analyzing recurrence rates, local and in‐transit recurrence‐free survival (LITRFS), disease‐free survival (DFS), and melanoma‐specific survival (MSS).

Excision Margins for Melanoma In Situ on the Head and Neck
Dermatologic Surgery, 2016Complete surgical excision of melanoma in situ (MIS) is curative. A 5-mm margin is often taken as the standard primary excision margin despite increasing evidence that this is frequently inadequate for tumor clearance. To calculate the proportion of patients requiring >5 mm margin for clearance and to investigate any patient/lesion characteristics ...

Results of Autografting of Marginal Conjunctiva in Pterygium Excision
Ophthalmologica, 2002Purpose: To investigate and compare the efficiency of autografting of marginal conjunctiva (autograft of marginal conjunctiva technique, AMCT) and the bare sclera technique (BST) in pterygium excision. Materials and Methods: In this study, 51 eyes of 51 patients who underwent pterygium surgery using the AMCT (group

Marginal Excision for Osteosarcoma With Caffeine Assisted Chemotherapy
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1999The authors report on intentional marginal excision for osteosarcoma in conjunction with caffeine assisted chemotherapy for the purpose of preservation of good limb function. Twenty-seven patients with osteosarcoma (22 patients with Stage IIB and five with Stage IIIB) preoperatively were given three-to-five courses of intraarterial cisplatin and ...
