Effects of climate change on marine biodiversity on the western Atlantic coast

Abstract The current climate crisis, driven by greenhouse gas emissions, threatens global biodiversity, including that in marine ecosystems. However, projections for the western Atlantic Ocean that jointly quantify species richness and endemism while accounting for spatially biased and incomplete occurrence data remain limited.

θ‐CA3 from a marine diatom has an N‐terminal transmembrane helix and two homologous catalytic domains. The enzyme functions as a dimer, with active sites formed near the dimer interface. Breaking the ice: multiple origins of ice‐binding/antifreeze proteins

Ice‐binding proteins (IBPs) evolved independently in many organisms during Cenozoic cooling and glaciation. In flounders, α‐helical IBPs evolved from an antiviral protein, while similar IBPs arose independently from different progenitors in three other fish lineages.
