Operationalizing BioSSbD: A safe‐and‐sustainable‐by‐design framework for biorefineries
Abstract Biorefineries are central to the transition toward a circular bioeconomy; however, their increasing scale and technological heterogeneity, and the integration of biological, chemical, and thermochemical processes introduce complex challenges related to safety, sustainability, and operational reliability. Existing Safe‐and‐Sustainable‐by‐Design

Complete mitochondrial genome of the Ijima's Sea Snake (Emydocephalus ijimae) (Squamata, Elapidae)
In this study, we provide the first report of the complete mitochondrial genome of Emydocephalus ijimae. The mitogenome length is 18,259 bp and includes 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and three non-coding regions.

An interactive atlas for marine biodiversity conservation in the Coral Triangle [PDF]
An online atlas of the Coral Triangle region of the Indo-Pacific biogeographic realm was developed. This online atlas consists of the three interlinked parts: (1) Biodiversity Features; (2) Areas of Importance for Biodiversity Conservation; (3 ...

New Perspectives on Marine Biodiversity [PDF]
Marine and terrestrial ecosystems are so fundamentally different in some aspects that many of the issues concerning biodiversity cannot be interpreted using a single theory of common application to all ecosystems. Their limitation is evident when it comes to highly biodiverse and interconnected marine ecosystems such as coral reefs. Trophic links are a

Extent, characteristics and policy applications of Key Biodiversity Areas
ABSTRACT A global standard for the identification of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) was published 10 years ago to provide a unified set of criteria for identifying ‘sites of significance for the global persistence of biodiversity’. We review the initiative's origins, the KBA identification process, characteristics of the current network, threats, policy

Using marine ecoengineering to mitigate biodiversity loss on modified structures in the Waitematā Harbour : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Conservation Biology at Massey University, Albany, New Zealand [PDF]
The construction of infrastructure on the foreshore is an unavoidable consequence of an ever-expanding human population. Traditionally, this infrastructure has replaced softsubstrates with hard substrates.

A roadmap to key traits of invasive Drosophilidae
ABSTRACT Biological invasions have intensified in recent decades, mostly driven by international trade and travel, raising significant concerns, particularly regarding insect pests. Once non‐native species establish, they can disrupt natural ecosystem stability, undermine agroecosystem sustainability and cause substantial economic losses.

Marine Biodiversity in Japanese Waters
To understand marine biodiversity in Japanese waters, we have compiled information on the marine biota in Japanese waters, including the number of described species (species richness), the history of marine biology research in Japan, the state of knowledge, the number of endemic species, the number of identified but undescribed species, the number of ...
