Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

A long-term (2000–2022), high-resolution (0.005°) aboveground biomass dataset of global grasslands

open access: yesScientific Data
Grasslands are critical to the global carbon cycle and support livestock production, yet long-term, high-resolution global datasets of grassland aboveground biomass (AGB) remain scarce, since existing products are often spatially coarse, temporally ...

Bone‐Inspired Recyclable Composites for Damage‐Tolerant Circular Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bone‐inspired architected composites are developed by combining osteon‐like reinforcements with a recyclable Elium thermoplastic matrix. The hierarchical architecture redirects cracks and promotes energy dissipation, while enabling recovery of intact, aligned, load‐bearing reinforcement units that retain their original stiffness, revealing a route ...

Increased harvested carbon of cropland in China

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Crop harvested carbon (HC) is one of the most important components of the carbon cycle in cropland ecosystems, with a significant impact on the carbon budget of croplands. China is one of the most important crop producers, however, it is still unknown on

Source-sink processes of marine black carbon in the context of "carbon neutrality"

open access: yes地质科技通报
Objective Black carbon is a carbonaceous mixture formed by the incomplete combustion of biomass and fossil fuels. Since black carbon has a high carbon content and an aromatized molecular structure, it can persist in the natural environment, suggesting ...

Microbial bioavailability regulates organic matter preservation in marine sediments [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2013
Burial of organic matter (OM) plays an important role in marine sediments, linking the short-term, biological carbon cycle with the long-term, geological subsurface cycle. It is well established that low-oxygen conditions promote organic carbon burial in

Advances in Solution‐Processed Textile Triboelectric Nanogenerators: Ink Formation, Processing Strategies, Applications, and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Advanced ink systems for solution‐processed textile triboelectric nanogenerators are systematically summarized, spanning conductive, tribo‐negative, and tribo‐positive layers. By connecting ink chemistry, deposition methods, and device function, the present review reveals the key governing principles of solution development and highlights practical ...

Blue carbon : challenges and opportunities to mitigate the climate and biodiversity crises

open access: yes, 2023
Climate change and biodiversity loss are two of humanity’s greatest challenges. Blue carbon, i.e. the carbon captured and stored by marine living organisms and ecosystems, has the potential to help mitigate both challenges, because marine ecosystems that

Photo‐Switchable Molecular Module Programming PET Biodegradation in Aquatic Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We address the plastic durability paradox by integrating an itaconic acid–derived pyrrolidone module into polymer backbones. Sunlight in water triggers Norrish Type I ring‐opening and hydrophilization, enabling rapid biodegradation into nontoxic minerals.
