Pantropical moist forests are converging towards a middle leaf longevity

open access: yesNature Communications
Leaf longevity is a fundamental plant trait that largely explains ecosystem functional dynamics in global pantropical moist forests. However, the signs, magnitudes, and mechanisms of the spatiotemporal variations in leaf longevity with ongoing climate ...

Evaluation of Carbon Fixation Potential and Analysis of Influencing Factors of Marine Microorganisms in the Beibu Gulf Based on Metagenomics [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Fishery Sciences
Marine microorganisms, though microscopic, represent a vast reservoir of organic carbon and play a central role in element cycling and energy flow within marine ecosystems. As key contributors to the biogeochemical cycling of carbon, these microorganisms

Plumbing the Depths of the Marine Carbon Cycle

open access: yesEos, 2017
Scientists measure dissolved black carbon in South China Sea water samples to better understand the carbon cycle in the oceans, which absorb roughly half of all carbon emitted into the atmosphere.

High Tree Species Diversity Promotes Thermal Enhancement Response of Microbial Carbon Use Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Predicting soil carbon dynamics under warming is constrained by limited understanding of microbial thermal adaptation, particularly whether microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) can adapt to warming and how plant diversity modulates this response. Using soils from a natural tree species diversity gradient in a subtropical forest, we combined a

Large Igneous Province Sulfur Emissions Have Long‐Term (>1000 Years) Effects on the Ocean Carbon Cycle

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
Large Igneous Province (LIP) eruptions are thought to have driven environmental and climate change over wide temporal scales ranging from a few to thousands of years.

Bacteriophages as a model for studying carbon regulation in aquatic system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The interconversion of carbon in organic, inorganic and refractory carbon is still beyond the grasp of present environmentalists. The bacteria and their phages, being the most abundant constituents of the aquatic environment, represent an ideal model for

Metagenomic Association Uncovers Host Genotype‐Structured Rhizobacterial Networks and Novel Taxa That Enhance Soybean Salt Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An STI‐guided metagenomic association framework links soybean salt‐tolerance phenotypes with rhizosphere microbiome composition and network organization in natural saline soils. The approach identifies candidate beneficial taxa, including Thalassospira xiamenensis, and provides an efficient strategy for mining stress‐protective microbes from native ...

A tropical marginal-marine record of Paleocene–Early Eocene carbon isotope excursions from the Lakadong Sandstone, South Shillong Plateau, India

open access: yesDiscover Geoscience
The Paleocene–Early Eocene interval was marked by major perturbations to the global carbon cycle associated with transient warming events, yet their expression in tropical marginal-marine settings remains poorly constrained.

The Precambrian marine carbonate isotope database: version 1.1. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present a compilation of strontium, carbon, and oxygen isotope compositions of roughly 10,000 marine carbonate rocks of Archean - Ordovician age (3800 Ma – 450 Ma).

Rare‐Earth–Sulfur Surface Modification Enables SiC Ceramics for Low‐Frequency Electromagnetic Wave Absorption in Extreme Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By altering surface chemical bonds to prolong relaxation time and shift absorption to lower frequencies, SiC/rare earth–sulfur (RE─S, RE = La, Ce, Pr, Sm, Gd, Er) materials achieve excellent low‐frequency electromagnetic wave absorption under extreme conditions, offering a new direction for designing high‐performance SiC‐based absorbers.
