Coastal cetaceans confront intensifying anthropogenic pressures, yet quantifying historical habitat loss remains methodologically challenging in data-scarce regions where shifting baseline syndrome obscures conservation targets.

Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a major marine organosulfur compound central to climate‐relevant dimethyl sulfide (DMS) production. In Halomonas sp. D47, DMSP catabolism is revealed to be coordinated by two transcriptional regulators, AcuR and AcuZ, which control gene expression by sensing DMSP and its metabolites.

Mapping Governance Gaps on the High Seas [PDF]
A patchwork of international bodies and treaties manage ocean resources and human activity in areas beyond any state's national jurisdiction. However, these governance bodies vary greatly in terms of their mandate, which determines their geographic scope,

Large marine protected areas represent biodiversity now and under climate change [PDF]
Large marine protected areas (>30,000 km2) have a high profile in marine conservation, yet their contribution to conservation is contested. Assessing the overlap of large marine protected areas with 14,172 species, we found large marine protected areas ...

Alternating High‐Fat and Polysaccharide Diets Modulates Gut Phage‐Bacterial Interplay
This study reveals how alternating high‐fat and polysaccharide diets reshape the human gut virome and enhance phage‐bacteria interactions. Using large‐scale metagenomic meta‐analysis and a time‐resolved mouse model, the authors show that diets strongly modulate phage abundance, lifestyle, and gene exchange, offering new insights into nutrition‐guided ...

PirN was identified as a previously uncharacterized PsbO‐interacting protein specifically induced in nitrate‐grown cyanobacteria. Loss of PirN leads to coordinated downregulation of PsbO and the nitrate reductase NarB, causing decreased PSII activity and impaired growth under nitrate conditions. Complementation with either PsbO or NarB largely restores

Encoding Cumulation to Learn Perturbative Nonlinear Oscillatory Dynamics
Weak nonlinearities critically shape the long term behavior of oscillatory systems but are difficult to identify from data. A data‐driven framework is introduced to infer governing equations of weakly nonlinear oscillators from sparse and noisy observations.
