Engagement in a Public Forum: Knowledge, Action, and Cosmopolitanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Facing challenges to the civic purpose of higher education, some scholars and administrators turn to the rhetoric of engagement. Simultaneously, the political philosophy of cosmopolitanism has gained intellectual favor, advocating openness to the lived ...

Additive‐Manufactured, Multifunctional Bioreactor Technology for Dynamic Culture of 3D Bioprinted Tissue Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce an additively manufactured bioreactor with a perfusion flow system and integrated temperature and pH sensors for skeletal muscle tissue biofabrication. The bioreactor's performance was evaluated by assessing the viability, spreading of the myoblast cells in a printed scaffold, and contraction of the isolated murine musculi interossei ...

Marine shrimp culture industry of Thailand: operating guidelines for shrimp farms. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The marine shrimp industry in Thailand had developed a code of conduct for its operations. This code of conduct is a set of principles and processes that provides a framework to meet the industry’s goal for environmental, social, and economic ...

Radical‐Mediated, Substrate‐Independent Fabrication of Hybrid Solid–Hydrogel Materials With Tunable Crosslinking: An Initiator‐ and Crosslinker‐Free Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces a substrate‐independent, reagent‐free plasma strategy that forms radical‐rich interlayers for covalent hydrogel attachment without initiators or crosslinkers. The long‐lived radicals drive in situ gelation, creating robust, cytocompatible hybrid solid–hydrogel constructs across diverse substrates.

Marine science education - Some inequities [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 1977
Many well-established and strong marine programs are offered at institutions which have preserved the concept that such studies are to be conducted only at the graduate level, while others have broken from this heritage and are offering undergraduate programs.

Alternating High‐Fat and Polysaccharide Diets Modulates Gut Phage‐Bacterial Interplay

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals how alternating high‐fat and polysaccharide diets reshape the human gut virome and enhance phage‐bacteria interactions. Using large‐scale metagenomic meta‐analysis and a time‐resolved mouse model, the authors show that diets strongly modulate phage abundance, lifestyle, and gene exchange, offering new insights into nutrition‐guided ...

Exploring the Intersection of Art, Science, and Marine Conservation Using Algal Biomass Waste

open access: yesCurrent: The Journal of Marine Education
Algal Turf Scrubbers (ATS) are designed to remediate polluted waters where wastewater and agricultural runoff have caused eutrophication and the non-point source of excess nutrients cannot be determined.

Encoding Cumulation to Learn Perturbative Nonlinear Oscillatory Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Weak nonlinearities critically shape the long term behavior of oscillatory systems but are difficult to identify from data. A data‐driven framework is introduced to infer governing equations of weakly nonlinear oscillators from sparse and noisy observations.
