Identification and characterization of microRNAs involved in ascidian larval metamorphosis

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background Metamorphosis takes place within the life cycle of most marine invertebrates. The marine ascidian is a classical model to study complex cellular processes and underlying molecular mechanisms involved in its larval metamorphosis.

Chronic PET‐Microplastic Exposure: Disruption of Gut–Liver Homeostasis and Risk of Hepatic Steatosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic exposure to environmentally relevant PET microplastics disrupts gut–liver homeostasis, leading to hepatic steatosis, early fibrosis, and altered gut microbiota. These effects signal metabolic imbalance and gut–liver axis impairment, emphasizing chronic microplastic ingestion as an emerging environmental health risk linked to non‐communicable ...

Design Principles for Deployable Fibers Inspired by Hagfish Defense

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hagfish slime deploys fibers from coiled skeins to form an ultra‐dilute, water‐trapping network. Inspired by this mechanism, design principles are established for synthetic skeins, fabricated with tightly coiled fibers that unravel under flow. These synthetic skeins demonstrate deployable fibrous networks, highlighting generalizable strategies for ...

ARL5B Drives Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Progression via ROCK1–SREBP1‐Mediated Lipid Metabolic Reprogramming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma urgently requires new therapeutic strategies. Adenosine diphosphate‐ribosylation factor‐like protein 5B (ARL5B) is identified as a novel oncogene that remodels fatty acid metabolism through the ras homologous‐associated coiled‐coil containing protein kinase 1 (ROCK1)–sterol regulatory element‐binding protein 1 (SREBP1)

All Biomass‐Based Solar‐Driven Interfacial Evaporator for Efficient Seawater Desalination and Power Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A fully biomass‐derived hydrogel for solar interfacial evaporation is engineered through Fe3+‐coordinated assembly of cellulose nanofibril (CNF) and lignosulfonate (LS). This sustainable evaporator achieves a high evaporation rate of 1.91 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 sun irradiation and demonstrates efficient desalination.
