Monitoring and control sensor system for fish feeding in marine fish farms

open access: yesIET Communications, 2011
One of the main issues in aquaculture is the high cost of the lost food when the fish are fed. Furthermore, this wasted food is deposited in the seabed and generates an environmental impact on the surrounding area. It causes failure to uphold aquaculture legislation.

Two Routes to Land: Genomic Underpinnings of Parallel Aerial Egg Deposition in Aquatic Old‐World Pila and New‐World Pomacea (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative genomics of Gondwana‐diverged Pila and Pomacea reveals parallel evolution of aerial oviposition. Convergent chromosomal rearrangements reshape regulatory landscapes within topologically associating domains. Lineage‐specific gene family expansions and viral‐derived perivitelline proteins (PV1) underpin desiccation resistance.

Parasites of marine, freshwater and farmed fishes of Portugal: a review [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2016
Abstract An extensive literature review is made of the parasites in marine and freshwater fish in mainland Portugal, the Portuguese archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, as well as in farmed fish. The host(s) of each parasite species, its location in the host, site of capture of the host, whenever possible, and all the available bibliographic ...

A Modular PLUG‐IN Photosynthetic Chassis With Tunable Thermal Control for Mammalian Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work establishes a “plug‐in” chassis compatible with mammalian systems that synchronizes growth, production, and cell‐wall re‐configuration, providing a versatile platform for photosynthetic bioproduction and microalgal synthetic biology. ABSTRACT Microalgae are promising photosynthetic platforms for high‐value compounds, yet their industrial use ...

Environmental impacts of marine fish farming and their mitigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The environmental impact of marine fish farming depends on species cultured, culture method, stocking density, feed type, hydrography of the site, and husbandry practices.

T2T Genome Assembly and Multi‐Omics Data Reveal Terrestrial Adaptation and Mucus Biosynthesis in Tropical Leatherleaf Slug (Laevicaulis alte)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A gap‐free genome assembly and multi‐omics comparison of the terrestrial slug Laevichaulis alte with an aquatic relative reveal that expansion of the VEGF family orchestrates mucus production, lipid metabolism, and immune defense—highlighting key molecular innovations for conquering life on land.

A Meramod® model approach for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the off–shore aquaculture improvement in the Alghero Bay (North western Sardinia, Italy)

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2010
Marine fish farming generates particulate wastes which are dispersed in the sea environment. To deal with this problem, particulate waste dispersion models have been developed to predict the effects of fish cage culture.
