Fish assemblages across the Mediterranean Sea and the effects of protection from fishing = I Popolamenti ittici nel Mediterraneo e gli effetti della protezione dall’impatto della pesca [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Several studies have assessed the effectiveness of individual marine protected areas (MPAs) in protecting fish assemblages, but regional assessments of multiple parks are scarce.

Dual‐Network Protein Hydrogels Promote Rapid Hemostasis and Immune‐Regulated Scarless Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐network protein hydrogel substantially improves hemostasis and scar‐free healing. The adaptive network maintains intimate tissue contact while providing strong wet adhesion, tunable mechanics, and controlled degradation. Concurrent ROS scavenging and M2 polarization suppress fibrotic pathways, preventing scar formation.

Bioeconomical Ricker's model of marine protected areas

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
Marine protected areas (MPA) become part of modern fishery management to safeguard marine life and sustain ecosystem processes. Based on a classical Ricker's model, the deterministic nonlinear sink-source model of MPA is presented.

The Benefits to People of Expanding Marine Protected Areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This study focuses on how the economic value of marine ecosystem services to people and communities is expected to change with the expansion of marine protected areas (MPAs).

Electrostatic Self‐Assembly Induced Nest‐Like MXene Networks on Fabric for Ultra‐Broadband Flexible Absorption

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, an electrostatically self‐assembled WPU‐MXene@FC flexible fabric constructs a “nest‐like” structure on fibers, building construct MXene multiple loss paths, achieving ultra‐wideband absorption of 25.3–1200 GHz in a thickness of 1.8 mm, while also exhibiting superhydrophobicity, acid and alkali resistance, and bending resistance ...

Supporting a Healthy Ocean: The Far-reaching Benefits of Large, Fully Protected Areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The ocean covers nearly three-quarters of the planet and plays an essential role in supporting life on Earth. Its waters help regulate global chemistry and climate, and are home to over 2 million species, many of which still await discovery.1 This rich ...

Biomimetic Bone Marrow Monocyte Membrane‐Fused Extracellular Vesicles for Targeted Therapy of Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a biomimetic delivery system (M‐hEV) by fusing monocyte membranes with extracellular vesicles for targeted therapy of damaged cardiac tissue. The system homes to injured myocardium through specific molecular pathways. In a myocardial infarction model, M‐hEV effectively accumulates in the heart, reduces infarct size, alleviates ...

Non Use Economic Values of Marine Protected Areas in the South-West Marine Region [PDF]

open access: yes
Australian governments are committed to the expansion of marine protected areas (MPAs) in Australian waters and have already established over 200 MPAs. However, this policy direction has a range of costs and benefits for the community which have largely ...

Heterointerface Engineering of Bismuth Nanosheets/Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon Nanoleaves Enables High‑Performance Electrochemical Dechlorination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bismuth nanosheets integrated with nitrogen‐doped carbon nanoleaves are constructed via a 2D‐on‐2D heterointerface engineering strategy. The resulting BiNS/NCL electrode delivers high chloride adsorption capacity, fast kinetics, and stable cyclability. A built‐in electric field at the heterointerface promotes chloride electrosorption and stabilizes the
