BridgeSAR: Measuring Bridge‐Water Clearance From Space Using SAR Multipath Signatures

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Bridge‐water clearance controls safe vessel passage and reflects local water‐level changes, but direct measurements are unavailable at many bridges. We present BridgeSAR, a geometry‐guided method that estimates clearance from multipath scattering stripes in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) amplitude images.

Contrasting Effects of Turbulence on Tropical Cyclones During Landfall

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Planetary boundary layer (PBL) turbulence modulates tropical cyclone (TC) intensity through competing mechanisms: (a) frictional dissipation that weakens TCs and (b) frictional convergence that drives stronger low‐level inflow and intensifies TCs.

SWOT‐Fitted River Bathymetry for Global Hydrodynamic Models

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract We present a robust, global method to reconcile absolute water surface elevations (WSE) from the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission with a large‐scale hydrodynamic model by iteratively correcting river bathymetry. After removing sensor and representativeness bias, we update riverbed elevations under DEM and min‐depth feasibility

Evaluating the sensitivity of raptors to wind turbine collisions: An integrative approach based on GPS tracking

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 4, October–December 2026.
Quantitative information on bird flight behaviour is essential to assess the sensitivity of different bird species to wind turbine collisions and inform wind turbine siting to minimise collision risk. By integrating (1) time spent in flight, (2) proportion of flights at risk height and (3) distance travelled from the nest location, derived from GPS ...

Passive Radar Exploiting Rotating Marine Radar

open access: yes
Passive bistatic radar is a surveillance method that uses existing illuminators in the world combined with a passive receiver to track and detect targets of interest. The passive system is beneficial as it does not transmit its own signal and as such is hard to detect.

Evaluating harvest control rules under recruitment regime shifts: Evidence from static and dynamic reference biomass in the anchovy fishery of the southern Humboldt ecosystem

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 4, October–December 2026.
Management performance under recruitment variability and regime shifts depends on the interaction between reference points and harvest control rules. Static reference points combined with gradual ramp‐type HCRs reduce overexploitation risk under high uncertainty, whereas dynamic reference points can enhance adaptability to persistent productivity ...

Photo‐Switchable Molecular Module Programming PET Biodegradation in Aquatic Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 84, 19 October 2026.
We address the plastic durability paradox by integrating an itaconic acid–derived pyrrolidone module into polymer backbones. Sunlight in water triggers Norrish Type I ring‐opening and hydrophilization, enabling rapid biodegradation into nontoxic minerals.
