Deep blueprint: A literature review and guide to automated image classification for ecologists

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
A practical, literature‐grounded review that gives ecologists a clear, modular workflow for deep learning image classification. With code, GUIs and a novel deep sea case study (automated deep sea biotope classification) it lowers technical barriers and provides a usable blueprint for accelerating, standardising, and scaling ecological image analysis ...

Stories from the Caribbean sponge Plakortis simplex: from structure elucidation to studies of biosynthetic pathways

open access: yes, 2007
Chemical analysis of Plakortis simplex sponge extract provided a number of structurally unique secondary metabolites, including the antimalarial polyketide plakortin, the IL-10 inducing simplexide and other unusual glycolipids, and hopanoids.

Formulation of a basal medium for primary cell culture of the marine sponge Hymeniacidon perleve

open access: yes, 2005
Marine sponge cell culture is a potential route for the sustainable production of sponge-derived bioproducts. Development of a basal culture medium is a prerequisite for the attachment, spreading, and growth of sponge cells in vitro.

125 years of exploration and research at Gough's Cave (Somerset, UK) 125 ans d'exploration et de recherches à Gough's Cave (Somerset, Royaume‐Uni)

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Our understanding of the recolonization of northwest Europe in the period leading up to the Lateglacial Interstadial relies heavily on discoveries from Gough's Cave (Somerset, UK). Gough's Cave is the richest Late Upper Palaeolithic site in the British Isles, yielding an exceptional array of human remains, stone and organic artefacts, and butchered ...

Mesophotic sponge assemblages in a region undergoing climate change stressors

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The biogeography of marine benthic assemblages worldwide is shifting to higher latitudes in response to climate change. Concurrently, extreme weather events are exacerbating environmental stressors.

The role of the Eastern Mediterranean in human evolution: recent results from Greece Le rôle du Bassin méditerranéen oriental dans l’évolution humaine : résultats récents en Grèce

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
The Eastern Mediterranean lies directly on the principal migration route for human groups dispersing across Africa, Europe, and Asia. It also encompasses the Balkans, where fauna and flora, as well as hominin populations, are thought to have persisted through glacial periods.

Natural Product Analysis of Coastal Marine Species of New Zealand

open access: yes, 2013
A chemical survey of 58 marine samples obtained from three sites around Tauranga New Zealand was undertaken in an effort to identify new metabolites. MTT assays using HeLa and P388 cell lines were carried out to determine if any of the samples contained ...

The Impact of Financial Reporting Mandates on Labor Unions

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Labor unions in the United States are subject to financial reporting mandates. This study examines how these mandates affect unions and their members. Using several regulation‐based empirical designs, we document that more granular reporting requirements adversely affect unions' election outcomes.
