Mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities of the ribotoxic stress response in cancer
Cancer cells' high translational demand creates opportunities to therapeutically target ribosome function. Ribosome stalling and collisions activate ZAKα and the ribotoxic stress response (RSR), which can trigger rapid, p53‐independent apoptosis in cancer.

Malformin A1–mediated cytotoxicity in ovarian cancer cells occurs through pyroptosis and autophagy
This study investigated the effects of the natural compound Malformin A1 (MA1) on the cytoskeleton that regulates cell proliferation and migration. Disruption of the cytoskeleton can impair these processes and promote cancer cell death. MA1 disrupted cytoskeletal organization, induced DNA damage, inflammation, activated autophagy, and pyroptosis ...

A Drop in the Ocean: Patchy Evidence on the Societal Benefits of Marine Litter Reduction
The benefits of marine litter reduction to society, which are mostly non-market ones, need to be valued and quantified in monetary terms to be included in cost benefit analyses required by the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

Marine Strategy Framework Directive - Descriptor 3+ (MSFD D3) [PDF]
Revised 22 February 2012. This report describes the process undertaken by ICES to provide guidance to support EU Member States (MS) in the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Di-rective (MSFD) Descriptor 3 (D3), commercially exploited fish and shellfish. The re-port also describes the potential role of ‘ecosystem’ indicators collected under

Structuring social data for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive
The Marine Strategy Framework Directive, adopted by the EU, and several other initiatives to improve marine environmental management emphasize the need to integrate environmental and social analyses. This article proposes and tests a general Behavior-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (BPSIR) framework for identifying and structuring environmentally ...

Implementing and innovating marine monitoring approaches for assessing marine environmental status
Marine environmental monitoring has tended to focus on site-specific methods of investigation. These traditional methods have low spatial and temporal resolution and are relatively labour intensive per unit area/time that they cover.
