Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Microplastics Baseline Surveys at the Water Surface and in Sediments of the North-East Atlantic

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2017
Microplastic contamination was determined in sediments of the Southern North Sea and floating at the sea surface of North West Europe. Floating concentrations ranged between 0 and 1.5 microplastic/m3, whereas microplastic concentrations in sediments ...

Discrepancies Between Micro Versus Macroscale Viscoelastic Properties in a Microplastic‐Tissue Composite Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the discrepancies between bulk mechanics and spatial mapping in a tissue‐mimetic hydrogel model. Microplastic particles create localized stiff mechanical microenvironments that are detectable by cellular‐scale nanoindentation but leave bulk properties unchanged as measured by rheology.

Ecosystem services of the Baltic Sea: An assessment and mapping perspective

open access: yesGeography and Sustainability, 2020
The Baltic Sea is essential for marine ecosystem services (MES) provision and the region's socio-economic dynamics. It is considered one of the busiest and most polluted regional seas in Europe.

Feasibility and Limitations of the Advanced Replica Process for Bioactive Glasses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic 3D‐printed Kelvin‐cell templates enable a controlled advanced replica process for fabricating highly porous glass lattices. Across P45K9, 45S5, and 13–93, material‐dependent differences in coating, burnout, and shrinkage lead to distinct strut morphologies, while comparable final porosities of 83%–88% are retained.

Managing Marine Litter: Exploring the Evolving Role of International and European Law in Confronting a Persistent Environmental Problem

open access: yesUtrecht Journal of International and European Law, 2011
The contamination of the world's oceans by human garbage, especially plastics, ranks among those environmental problems whose resolution appears remote, despite the considerable public attention paid to the 'Great Garbage Patch' in the Pacific, 'plastic ...
