Can AI‐Based Surrogate Models Offer Added Value for Process Optimization?—Investigations Into Practical Application Examples in the C4 Verbund

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 49, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT On‐stream optimizing the performance of chemical processes requires accurate modeling and real‐time problem‐solving. Exploiting artificial neural networks as surrogate models offers a promising solution due to their capability of capturing complex correlations efficiently.

Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation Enhances Repeated High‐Intensity Interval Training Performance and Time Above 90% of V˙O2 $\dot{\mathbf{V}}{\mathbf{O}}_{\mathbf{2}}$max in Well‐Trained Cyclists

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of sodium bicarbonate (SB) supplementation on physiological responses and performance during submaximal exercise, high‐intensity interval training (HIT) and repeated Wingate sprints in well‐trained cyclists. Twenty‐four participants (♂ = 15, maximal oxygen uptake [V˙O2 $\dot{\mathrm{V}}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$max] =

Predictors of Salvage After Re‐Exploration of Compromised Free Anterolateral Thigh Flaps for Post‐Traumatic Extremity Reconstruction

open access: yesMicrosurgery, Volume 46, Issue 7, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Vascular compromise after free anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap reconstruction is a time‐critical event and may result in total flap loss despite re‐exploration. Although earlier re‐exploration is associated with improved salvage, this relationship is often simplified by arbitrary thresholds, and internally validated prediction ...

Recent Updates in Surgical and Non‐Surgical Management of Peyronie's Disease: Implications for Modern Clinical Practice

open access: yesTrends in Urology &Men's Health, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The management of Peyronie's Disease (PD) remains a clinical challenge to urologists due to its dynamic and heterogeneous nature, variable psychosocial burden, with wide‐ranging treatments, both non‐surgical and surgical. Recent advances in Peyronie's disease (PD) include refined classification systems like PTNM that help facilitate ...

Convectively Coupled Equatorial Waves in a Global Storm‐Resolving Model

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract We show how reducing the fall speeds of rain and ice leads to reduced biases of Convectively Coupled Equatorial Waves (CCEWs) in convection‐resolving configurations of the Icosahedral Non‐hydrostatic Model (ICON). In particular, reducing the fall speeds of rain and ice leads to stronger activity over the wavenumbers and frequencies associated ...

The role of methylation and structural variants in shaping the recombination landscape of barley

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 128, Issue 1, October 2026.
SUMMARY Meiotic recombination is not only a key mechanism for sexual adaptation in eukaryotes but crucial for the accumulation of beneficial alleles in breeding populations. The effective manipulation of recombination requires, however, a better understanding of the mechanisms regulating the rate and distribution of recombination events in genomes ...

bk$b^k$‐Algebroids and the variety of foliation jets

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 114, Issue 4, October 2026.
Abstract We introduce and classify singular foliations of bk+1$b^{k+1}$‐type, which formalize the properties of vector fields that are tangent to a submanifold W⊂M$W \subset M$ to order k$k$. When W$W$ is a hypersurface, these structures are Lie algebroids generalizing the bk+1$b^{k+1}$‐tangent bundles introduced by Scott.
