Associations of fetal and infant growth patterns with behavior and cognitive outcomes in early adolescence

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Fetal life and infancy might be critical periods for brain development leading to increased risks of neurocognitive disorders and psychopathology later in life. We examined the associations of fetal and infant weight growth patterns and birth characteristics with behavior and cognitive outcomes at the age of 13 years.

Snakes on the plains: The impacts of habitat structure on snake communities in Illinois grasslands

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, Volume 46, Issue 5, December 2022., 2022
We employed GLMMs and a community occupancy model to investigate how habitat structure may influence the relative abundance and diversity of snakes in grasslands. We found woody cover in a grassland patch and the presence of roads around a patch perimeter to be highly associated with both snake relative abundance and diversity.

Evaluation of fall‐seeded cover crops for grassland nesting waterfowl in eastern South Dakota

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView., 2023
Cover crops are experiencing a revival among Midwestern farmers, and we assessed their attractiveness and safety for nesting ducks in South Dakota. Nest success was markedly lower in cover crops than in perennial cover during both years of our study, including 2019 which was a best‐case scenario for cover crops, with extremely wet conditions delaying ...
