Biogeography and diversification patterns in the Irano‐Turanian biodiversity hotspots inferred from a molecular phylogeny of the subendemic Iris subgenus Scorpiris (Iridaceae)

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
The Irano‐Turanian Floristic Region harbors a rich flora, but our understanding of the development of this diversity is limited by a lack of data on phylogenetic relationships and biogeographic patterns of endemic and more widespread plants. Hypotheses of in situ diversification versus allopatric diversification were tested using Iris subgen. Scorpiris,

The reliability assessment of the electromagnetic valve of high-speed electric multiple units braking system based on two-parameter exponential distribution

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2016
In order to solve the reliability assessment of braking system component of high-speed electric multiple units, this article, based on two-parameter exponential distribution, provides the maximum likelihood estimation and Bayes estimation under a type-I ...

Amanita theophili sp. nov. (Amanitaceae) from central Mexico

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Amanita theophili sp. nov., a member of Amanita sect. Amidella (Amanitaceae), is described from temperate pine‐oak forests in Morelos, central Mexico. Morphological features and phylogenetic analyses based on ITS and 28S rDNA sequences confirm its distinct taxonomic status. The new species is morphologically similar to A. peckiana and A.

A Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for Bayesian policy search

open access: yesSystems Science & Control Engineering, 2018
Policy search algorithms have facilitated application of Reinforcement Learning (RL) to dynamic systems, such as control of robots. Many policy search algorithms are based on the policy gradient, and thus may suffer from slow convergence or local optima ...

Residual-based tests for cointegration and multiple regime shifts [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we examine the properties of several cointegration tests when long run parameters are subject to multiple shifts, resorting to Monte Carlo methods.

Simplifying species‐interaction models by grouping parameters: optimal groupings differ between effects and responses

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Most ecological models of species interactions require many parameters, making them expensive to fit to experimental or observational data. To reduce the number of parameters, species are often divided into groups a priori, for example on the basis of functional or phylogenetic similarity, and species within these groups are assumed to behave ...

Zero variance in Markov chain Monte Carlo with an application to credit risk estimation [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a general purpose variance reduction technique for Markov Chain Monte Carlo estimators based on the Zero-Variance principle introduced in the physics lit- erature by Assaraf and Caarel ( 1999). The potential of the new idea is illustrated with

Environmental influence on intraspecific trait variation in the tropical seagrass Halodule uninervis

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Intraspecific trait variation (ITV) enhances the precision of applying functional trait approaches in plant ecology. Despite its benefits, ITV is rarely considered in functional trait‐based seagrass research. The goal of our research is to measure ITV in the tropical seagrass species Halodule uninervis and assess the environmental factors associated ...
