A model for quantum queue

open access: yes, 2012
We consider an extension of Discrete Time Markov Chain queueing model to the quantum domain by use of Discrete Time Quantum Markov Chain. We introduce methods for numerical analysis of such models.

Modeling stochastic gene expression: From Markov to non-Markov models

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences and Engineering, 2020
Gene expression is an inherently noisy process due to low copy numbers of mRNA or protein. The involved reaction events may happen in a Markov fashion but also in a non-Markov manner, depending on waiting-time distributions for the occurrence of reaction events.

Markov models in cardiac surgery

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, 2020
Spinal cord ischemia remains a dreadful complication after thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair. The role of cerebrospinal fluid drain in such patients needs further clarifications. Tam and colleagues carried out an interesting decision analysis study that supports the routine use of the cerebrospinal fluid drain after thoracoabdominal aneurysm ...

Mobility Aware Network Selection in a Heterogeneous Wireless Environment

open access: yesTransport and Telecommunication, 2020
Different Radio Access Technologies (RATs) coexist in the same area has encouraged the researchers to get profit from the available networks by selecting of the best RAT at each moment of the call session to satisfy the user requirements.

Joint Situational Assessment‐Hierarchical Decision‐Making Framework for Maneuver Intent Decisions

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new framework for decision‐making in unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs), integrating graph convolutional networks and hierarchical reinforcement learning (HRL). The method tackles adopts a curriculum‐based training approach guided by cross‐entropy rewards.

Cortical synapses of the world's smallest mammal: An FIB/SEM study in the Etruscan shrew

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 531, Issue 3, Page 390-414, February 2023., 2023
The present work provides a quantitative dataset of synapses from the Etruscan shrew (the smallest known terrestrial mammal). We have identified common and differing principles of synaptic organization compared to other mammalian species. Abstract The main aim of the present study was to determine if synapses from the exceptionally small brain of the ...

A Hidden Markov Model approach to variation among sites in rate of evolution.

open access: yesMolecular biology and evolution, 1996
The method of Hidden Markov Models is used to allow for unequal and unknown evolutionary rates at different sites in molecular sequences. Rates of evolution at different sites are assumed to be drawn from a set of possible rates, with a finite number of ...

Context Tree Estimation in Variable Length Hidden Markov Models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We address the issue of context tree estimation in variable length hidden Markov models. We propose an estimator of the context tree of the hidden Markov process which needs no prior upper bound on the depth of the context tree. We prove that the estimator is strongly consistent.

Advancements in Machine Learning for Microrobotics in Biomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Microrobotics is an innovative technology with great potential for noninvasive medical interventions. However, controlling and imaging microrobots pose significant challenges in complex environments and in living organisms. This review explores how machine learning algorithms can address these issues, offering solutions for adaptive motion control and ...
