Markov-Switching MIDAS Models [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Business & Economic Statistics, 2013
This article introduces a new regression model—Markov-switching mixed data sampling (MS-MIDAS)—that incorporates regime changes in the parameters of the mixed data sampling (MIDAS) models and allows for the use of mixed-frequency data in Markov-switching models.

An Introduction to Predictive Processing Models of Perception and Decision‐Making

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract The predictive processing framework includes a broad set of ideas, which might be articulated and developed in a variety of ways, concerning how the brain may leverage predictive models when implementing perception, cognition, decision‐making, and motor control.

Lie Markov models

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, 2012
Recent work has discussed the importance of multiplicative closure for the Markov models used in phylogenetics. For continuous-time Markov chains, a sufficient condition for multiplicative closure of a model class is ensured by demanding that the set of rate-matrices belonging to the model class form a Lie algebra.

Mixed Markov models [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2003
Markov random fields can encode complex probabilistic relationships involving multiple variables and admit efficient procedures for probabilistic inference. However, from a knowledge engineering point of view, these models suffer from a serious limitation.

SEMI-MARKOV RELIABILITY MODELS

open access: yesAdvanced Information Systems, 2022
Traditional technologies for reliability analysis of semi-Markov systems are limited to obtaining a stationary state probability distribution. However, when solving practical control problems in such systems, the study of transient processes is of considerable interest.

Modeling stochastic gene expression: From Markov to non-Markov models

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences and Engineering, 2020
Gene expression is an inherently noisy process due to low copy numbers of mRNA or protein. The involved reaction events may happen in a Markov fashion but also in a non-Markov manner, depending on waiting-time distributions for the occurrence of reaction events.

Consumer Responses to Corporate Social Responsibility Practices in the Multichannel Technology Retail Sector: Insights Into Brand Attitude, Admiration, and the Moderating Role of Skepticism

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In general, consumers show a growing interest in business activities that go beyond the strictly economic, such as environmental and social initiatives. Thus, implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices in companies has gained relevance in recent years. This study analyzed how the perception of CSR affects consumer attitude in

Leveraging Machine Learning to Predict Food Waste Quantity: Focusing on Military Dining Facilities as Large‐Scale Food Service Operations

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food waste reveals inefficiencies in resource use and contributes significantly to environmental pollution. In the United States, food waste accounts for the majority of total waste, with more than 50 million tons generated annually. In military units that operate large‐scale institutional food‐service facilities and generate significant food ...

Western Balkans as the Frontline of Russian Hybrid Warfare

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hybrid warfare (HW) scholarship acknowledges the phenomenon's contextual and temporal specificity, yet its dominant conceptual framing has generated a literature largely centred on identifying and categorising hybrid activities. This focus has left the contextual vulnerabilities that enable hybrid threats (HTs) and shape an adversary's ...
