Changing Demographics and Prevalence of Body Lice among Homeless Persons, Marseille, France

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2017
The prevalence of body lice among 2,288 sheltered homeless persons in the city of Marseille during 2000–2017 was 12.2% and significantly decreased over time. We report a positive association between body lice infestations and older age, duration of stays

Assessing Strengths and Limitations of Magnetoencephalography Source Imaging With Intracerebral EEG

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Simultaneous MEG and stereotactic EEG (SEEG) recordings provide a direct validation framework for MEG source imaging in focal epilepsy. Virtual SEEG signals derived from MEG reconstructions reveal significant agreement with intracranial measures of spike localization, resting‐state oscillations, and functional connectivity, while also identifying ...

Molecular Recognition by Halogen Bonding With Atomic Precision in a Covalent Organic Cage

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A covalent organic cage embedding a single inward‐facing halogen‐bond (XB) donor enables recognition of DMMP, a Sarin surrogate, with atomic precision through halogen bonding, while both the hydrogen bonding donor encaged analogue and the XB donor open model ‐lacking cavity‐ show no affinity.

Noncontiguous finished genome sequences and descriptions of Actinomyces ihuae, Actinomyces bouchesdurhonensis, Actinomyces urinae, Actinomyces marseillensis, Actinomyces mediterranea and Actinomyces oralis sp. nov. identified by culturomics

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2018
The taxonogenomic approach, including the culturomics techniques, is now currently used to isolate and characterize new bacteria. These approaches notably allowed us to discover six new species of the Actinomyces genus: Actinomyces ihuae strain SD1 ...

Collinsella vaginalis sp. nov. strain Marseille-P2666T, a new member of the Collinsella genus isolated from the genital tract of a patient suffering from bacterial vaginosis.

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2019
A strictly anaerobic, Gram-stain-positive, non motile and non-spore-forming rod-shaped bacterium, strain Marseille-P2666T, was isolated using the culturomics approach from a vaginal sample of a French patient suffering from bacterial vaginosis.

A Generative Neuro‐Symbolic AI for Protein Sequence Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce EffieDes, a neuro‐symbolic framework coupling deep learning‐based fitness landscape parameterization with exact automated reasoning. Unlike greedy sampling, EffieDes identifies sequences that globally optimize fitness while satisfying intricate design constraints.

A Conserved Isoleucine Gates the Diffusion of CO and O2 to the Active Site of NiFe CO‐Dehydrogenase

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A combination of protein film electrochemistry and site‐directed mutagenesis shows that isoleucine 563 (numbering of Thermococcus sp. AM4) gates the arrival of both CO and O2 to the active site of the nickel‐iron CO dehydrogenases. Mutations at this position increase the resistance to O2 at the cost of a slower reaction with CO.

Noncontiguous finished genome sequences and description of Bacillus massiliglaciei, Bacillus mediterraneensis, Bacillus massilinigeriensis, Bacillus phocaeensis and Bacillus tuaregi, five new species identified by culturomics

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2017
Microbial culturomics, which investigates microbial diversity by combining diversified culture conditions, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and 16S rDNA identification, allowed to identify five new species ...

Dual Blockade of LILRB1 and LILRB2 Enhances Antiviral Immune Responses in SIV Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual LILRB1/B2 blockade with mac20G10 reshapes myeloid activation during acute SIV infection by targeting LILRB1 and LILRB2 on myeloid cells. This treatment enhances CD80 expression on selected myeloid subsets and increases plasma IFN‐λ, IL‐8, and IL‐1RA.

Up to 16% Optical Carbon‐13 Hyperpolarization of Donor–Acceptor Molecules at 14.1 T

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Up to 16% 13C nuclear polarization is achieved using a rationally designed photo‐CIDNP polarizing agent (PA) in magic‐angle‐spinning NMR experiments at 14.1 T. The PA was designed using a combination of theoretical photocycle calculations and magnetic field dependent experiments to identify important new design principles.
