Martensit und Metallographie / Martensite and Metallography

Praktische Metallographie/Practical Metallography, 2000
Martensite and metallography were the two subject areas in which Hermann Schumann (1924 -1989) achieved great respect. An example of which is his work on y ↔ e -transformations, the fundamentals and technical exploitation of which he combined in the development of new materials [1]. This paper is dedicated to his memory.

Relaxation Rotation during Martensitic Transformation and Scattering of the Martensite Texture

Doklady Physics, 2023
In the our crystallographic theory of martensitic transformation, a new characteristic of martensitic transformation appears – a relaxation rotation, which was not in the generally accepted phenomenological theory of martensitic transformation. The relaxation rotation is necessary to obtain an invariant plane.

The simultaneous occurrence of martensitic transformation and reversion of martensite

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2014
Abstract We use a 3D elastoplastic phase-field model to study the simultaneous occurrence of martensitic transformation as well as the reversion of martensite in steels under uni-axial tension. Our results show that although martensite nucleates and grows as a single lath (variant), it reverts and splits into two independent martensite laths, due to “

Defect modelling of martensitic interfaces in plate martensite

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2008
Abstract A physical model of martensitic transformations describing the structure of the parent–martensite interface and the transformation mechanism is presented. This approach is used here to model martensitic transformations in lath and plate martensite. The habit plane comprises coherent (1 1 1) γ //(0 1 1) α terraces where the coherency strains

Influence of austenite and martensite strength on martensite morphology

Metallurgical Transactions, 1971
The martensite morphology and austenite flow strength have been determined in a variety of ferrous alloys chosen so that the austenites were paramagnetic, ferromagnetic, substitutional strengthened, and interstitial strengthened. It is demonstrated that two of the most important variables in determining the habit plane (and thus morphology) of ...
