Martensitic phase transformation in TiNi [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
AbstractFrom temperature dependent perturbed angular correlation (PAC) measurements (77–873 K) in equiatomic TiNi intermetallic alloy, martensitic phase transformations have been observed. Three frequency components corresponding to three different phases of TiNi have been found in the temperature range 298–873 K.

Vacancy-tuned paramagnetic/ferromagnetic martensitic transformation in Mn-poor Mn_{1-x}CoGe alloys

open access: yes, 2010
It is shown that a temperature window between the Curie temperatures of martensite and austenite phases around the room temperature can be obtained by a vacancy-tuning strategy in Mn-poor Mn1-xCoGe alloys (0

Deformation behavior of duplex austenite and ε-martensite high-Mn steel

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2013
Deformation and work hardening behavior of Fe–17Mn–0.02C steel containing ε-martensite within the austenite matrix have been investigated by means of in situ microstructural observations and x-ray diffraction analysis. During deformation, the steel shows

Effect of lattice mismatch-induced strains on coupled diffusive and displacive phase transformations

open access: yes, 2006
Materials which can undergo slow diffusive transformations as well as fast displacive transformations are studied using the phase-field method. The model captures the essential features of the time-temperature-transformation (TTT) diagrams, continuous ...

Interactions of negative strain rate sensitivity, martensite transformation, and dynamic strain aging in 3rd generation advanced high-strength steels

open access: yesMaterials Science & Engineering: A, 2019
Medium Mn transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steels, a subgroup of third generation advanced high-strength steels (AHSS), often present a combination of both dynamic strain aging (DSA) and TRIP. It has been previously shown that TRIP coincides with

Continuous Cooling Transformation Behaviour and Bainite Transformation Kinetics of 23CrNi3Mo Carburised Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2020
In this study, the phase transformation behaviour of the carburised layer and the matrix of 23CrNi3Mo steel was comparatively investigated by constructing continuous cooling transformation (CCT) diagram, determining the volume fraction of retained ...

Phase field simulations of coupled phase transformations in ferroelastic-ferroelastic nanocomposites

open access: yes, 2009
We use phase field simulations to study composites made of two different ferroelastics (e.g., two types of martensite). The deformation of one material due to a phase transformation can elastically affect the other constituent and induce it to transform ...

A theoretical review of the operation of vibratory stress relief with particular reference to the stabilization of large-scale fabrications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Vibratory stress relief (VSR) is widely used on large welded fabrications to stabilize the structures so that they do not distort during further machining or during operational duty.

Barkhausen Noise Emission in AISI 321 Austenitic Steel Originating from the Strain-Induced Martensite Transformation

open access: yesMetals, 2021
This paper investigates the sensitivity of the Barkhausen noise technique against strain-induced martensite in AISI 321 austenitic stainless steel. Martensite transformation was induced by the uniaxial tensile test, and a variable martensite fraction was

Influence of intermartensitic transitions on transport properties of Ni2.16Mn0.84Ga alloy

open access: yes, 2004
Magnetic, transport, and x-ray diffraction measurements of ferromagnetic shape memory alloy Ni$_{2.16}$Mn$_{0.84}$Ga revealed that this alloy undergoes an intermartensitic transition upon cooling, whereas no such a transition is observed upon subsequent ...
