Root Structural and Metabolic Plasticity Confers Tolerance to Salinity in Wild Barley Species Grown Under Waterlogging

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Salinity combined with waterlogging is a major abiotic stress that severely limits crop growth and yield. We investigated species‐specific adaptations to salinity under constant waterlogging conditions in the wild halophytic barleys Hordeum marinum and H. glaucum, compared with the cultivated H. vulgare.

A Hundred Thousand Darlingtons: Self‐Respect, Moral Judgement, and the Right to an Equal Democratic Say

open access: yesAnalytic Philosophy, EarlyView.

Deflating and Debunking: A Case for Hard‐Line Structuralism

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Can manipulated agents be morally responsible for what they do? According to hard‐line structuralism, yes. On this view, manipulated agents are responsible in virtue of satisfying the relevant structural conditions taken to be sufficient for responsibility.

Size of chloroplasts in Arabidopsis mesophyll cells affects jasmonate biosynthesis

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
The relationship between chloroplast structure and hormone biosynthesis capacity is poorly understood. This study shows that mutants harbouring giant chloroplasts produce more jasmonic acid upon mechanical stress than wild‐type plants, suggesting that organellar architecture is a previously unrecognized factor associated with plant hormone biosynthesis

Beyond barriers: fish assemblage recovery following dam removal on the Cuyahoga River, a Lake Erie tributary

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Dam removals are increasing globally, yet ecological outcomes vary widely because biological recovery depends on post‐removal connectivity and access to source populations. We evaluated how multiple dam removals and remaining fragmentation influenced fish assemblage recovery in the Cuyahoga River (OH, United States), a historically polluted Great Lakes
