This experiment investigated the propensity of the generic he to evoke images of males relative to he/she and the plural they. Undergraduates read sentences aloud and verbally described the images that came to mind. 이 글은 한국 청년 세대 담론이 가진 남성중심적 한계를 극복하고 오늘 /여기 청년기 인구집단이 가진 다층성과 이질성을 포착하기 위해, 남성성 연구의 성과를 활용하여 청년 세대 담론의 젠더화를 시도한다. 최근의 청년 세대 담론은 청년층을 몰젠더적인 남성인 것처럼 표상하고, 그들의 위기와 좌절을 젊은 남성들이 표준화된 근대적 남성 생애주기 과제를 달성하기 어려워진 것에서 찾는 경향이 있다. 그러나 한국사회에서 정상가족의 표준이나 근대적 성별분업은 상당부분 이미 해체, 변형되고 있으며, 따라서 청년 세대에 대한 담론이 여전히 이것을 전제로 하고 있는 것은 불합리하다.
