The Layout and Size of an Early Pre‐Pottery Neolithic B Small Settlement Revealed by Geophysical Prospection at Harbetsuvan Tepesi in Southeastern Anatolia

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In Upper Mesopotamia, the transition from the Pre‐Pottery Neolithic A (PPNA) to Pre‐Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) period, ca. 10 800–10 600 cal. BP, is marked by a series of changes in chipped stone industries, architectural forms, symbolic objects, regional distribution of settlements and long‐distance exchange networks among others.

Fracture evolution of a thick soft protection layer and the water inrush mechanism in overburden under longwall mining

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Through shear–tensile creep tests and viscoelastic modeling, the fracture evolution of thick soft protective layers is clarified. Results show thickness‐dependent rheological failure modes that govern four types of roof water inrush, providing a mechanism‐based framework for hazard prediction and control. Abstract In the Jurassic coal‐bearing strata of

Seismic analysis of reinforced concrete buildings with participating masonry infills

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2021
In this paper, seismic analyses are performed of a reinforced concrete frame building with participating masonry walls are carried out. The spectral method of the Brazilian code – ABNT 15421:2006 – was used to obtain the lateral seismic loads.

Study on the Influence of Slope Static Load on Shallow Lining Support Structure

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
On the basis of the background of the shallow‐buried main adit supported by stone lining, the mechanical model of the supporting structure is constructed, and the stability of the supporting structure is analyzed by using the methods of field investigation, theoretical analysis, and numerical simulation.

Finalisation of the European Approach to Assess the Fire Performance of Facades—Brief Information on the Outcome of the Project

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This research was conducted within the framework of project SI2.825082, funded by the European Commission—DG GROW. The project's objective was to finalise a European approach for assessing the fire performance of façades under medium and large fire exposure conditions.

Minimum energy strategies for the in-plane behaviour of masonry

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2020
Unreinforced masonry is the most diffused construction material in the major part of historical centers in Europe. In a building subjected to earthquake forces the contribution of in-plane shear resistance of the masonry walls is a determinant factor for

High‐strength composites by thiocracking of high‐polypropylene‐content mixed waste

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Mixed plastic waste made up of polystyrene and polypropylene was reacted with elemental sulfur to give high‐strength composites. Abstract Mixed‐material municipal waste poses a persistent end‐of‐life management challenge because the heterogeneous composition limits efficient separation and recycling. After disposal, mixed‐material waste often fragments

Seismic Performance of a Three-Story Reinforced Concrete Building with Masonry Infill Walls and Friction Base Support

open access: yesCivil Engineering Dimension, 2021
The stiffness of masonry infill walls is commonly neglected in design practice of Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures. In fact, the stiffness of masonry infill wall may significantly influence seismic performance and dynamic behavior of RC buildings. In

Achieving Sustainable Development Goals Through Social Life Cycle Assessment: A Case Study of Portuguese Forest Wood Supply Chains

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Social considerations are often overlooked in efforts to achieve sustainable development, despite being critical for building equitable and resilient global value chains. This study addresses this gap by applying a social life cycle assessment to three key Portuguese forest wood supply chains—uncoated woodfree paper, natural cork stoppers, and

Tests of Joints in AAC Masonry Walls [PDF]

open access: yesArchitecture, Civil Engineering, Environment, 2018
Abstract The paper presents the results of the Authors’ tests on the joints in AAC masonry walls. The shape of the tested element and the test stand were fitted innovatively based on the Authors’ own experience as well as on the literature overview and numerical analysis. Cracking morphology and mode of failure were investigated.
