Mass-attenuation coefficients of beta particles

International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part A. Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1990
Abstract A method to obtain mass-attenuation coefficients of β particles is described. This method is based upon the simulation of β emission by means of the β energy spectrum. The range of the β particle is chosen as random incidence by means of range distribution of monoenergetic electrons which have the same energy as the β particle.

Mass attenuation coefficients of β+-particles

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1999
Abstract The beta-spectra for the allowed transition and the first forbidden unique transition are calculated with enough accuracy. By applying them to the semiempirical transmission equation of monoenergetic electrons and positrons, we obtained the mass attenuation coefficients of beta-particles.

Soil mass attenuation coefficient: Analysis and evaluation

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2014
Abstract The mass attenuation coefficient ( μ ) is an important parameter to characterize the penetration and interaction of gamma-rays in the soil. Accurate determinations of μ are important to obtain representative values of soil physical properties by gamma-ray attenuation technique. In this study, the effect of collimator size (2–4 mm diameters)

Studies on mass attenuation coefficient, mass energy absorption coefficient and kerma of some vitamins

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2012
Abstract The mass attenuation coefficients for some vitamins (retinol, beta-carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, niacinamide, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folic acid, cyanocobalamin, ascorbic acid, cholecalciferol, alpha-tocopherol, ketamine, hesperidin) were determined experimentally and theoretically at 356.61, 661.66, 1250 and 1408.01 keV ...

Calculation of Mass Attenuation Coefficients of Beta Particles

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 1998
Using the semi-empirical equations for the transmission coefficient of monoenergetic electrons, the mass attenuation coefficient of beta particles has been calculated. Beta spectra for 'allowed' and 'first forbidden' transitions are considered. The calculated mass attenuation coefficients for {beta}- emitters determined in the present study agree ...

Mass Attenuation Coefficients for Plastic Pilot-B Scintillator

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1971
Mass attenuation coefficients of the commercial plastic Pilot-B scintillator have been determined as a function of energy. Sources emitting gamma rays with energies of 0.36, 0.66, 0.80, and 1.33 MeV were used. The results indicate strong absorption in the low energy region and a smooth nonlinear decrease in the mass attenuation coefficients with ...

Photon mass attenuation coefficients of importance to dosimetry

2011 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2011
For Medical imaging and radiation therapy applications photon, of energies less than 1.3 MeV, are commonly utilized. The importance of the data of attenuation coefficients for this energy range cannot be overemphasized. In the past, there were many measurements made using multiple sources and low-resolution scintillation detectors.

Determination of X-ray mass attenuation coefficients using HPGe detector

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2010
A detail analysis of a method to determine the mass attenuation coefficient, mu(m), of low energy X-rays employing HPGe X-ray detector and radioactive sources is described. This method incorporates all the suggestions made by Creagh and Hubbell. An optimum distance is set under the broad beam as well as good geometry arrangement.
