A method for calculating mass-attenuation coefficients of beta particles
International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part A. Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1987Abstract A new method to calculate mass-attenuation coefficients of β− and β+ particles of energies from 0.25 to 5.0 MeV for elemental absorbers is described. This method is based upon the interactions of β− and β+ particles with matter and the use of the varying transmission limit for different absorbers.

Observations on the experimental determination of mass attenuation coefficients
Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2006Abstract This article addresses certain aspects of planning, performing, analyzing and reporting experiments designed to determine mass attenuation coefficients. The aim is to encourage experimentalists to add value from the user’s perspective. For illustrative purposes two recent papers from this journal are taken as examples.

Study on dependence of partial and total mass attenuation coefficients
Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 2005Abstract The partial and total mass attenuation coefficients μ / ρ ( cm 2 g - 1 ) of photons at energy of 1 keV–100 GeV have been calculated as a function of atomic number and photon energies using the XCOM program (version 3.1) and data base and the calculated results were compared with the measurement.

Determination of Mass Attenuation Coefficients for CuInSe2 and CuGaSe2 Semiconductors
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007This work presents mass attenuation coefficients values of CuInSe2 and CuGaSe2 semiconductor thin films commonly used in photovoltaic devices. The mass attenuation coefficients were measured at different energies from 11.9 to 37.3 keV by using the secondary excitation method.

The measurement of total mass attenuation coefficients of CoCuNi alloys
Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 2004Abstract The total mass attenuation coefficients for Co, Cu, Ni elements and CoCu, CoCuNi alloys were measured at different energies with 11.88, 13.93, 17.59, 21.09 and 26.00 keV emitted an 241 Am point source using transmission arrangement. The gamma rays were counted by a Si(Li) detector with a resolution of 160 eV at

Determination of mass attenuation coefficient of low-Z dosimetric materials
Radiation Effects and Defects in Solids, 2014The mass attenuation coefficients of some low-Z dosimetric materials with potential applications in dosimetry, medical and radiation protection have been investigated using the Monte Carlo simulation code Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP). Appreciable variations are noted for the mass attenuation coefficient by changing the photon energy.

Improved techniques for measuring x-ray mass attenuation coefficients
Optical Engineering, 2006We apply the x-ray extended-range technique (XERT) to measure mass attenuation coefficients over one order of magnitude more accurately than previously reported in the literature. We describe the application of the XERT to the investigation of systematic effects due to harmonic energy components in the x-ray beam, scattering and fluorescence from the ...

Mass attenuation coefficients of saccharides for low-energy X-rays
Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2005Abstract Mass attenuation coefficients have been measured for mono- and disaccharides at photon energies 5.947, 6.460 and 14.413 keV. The measured values are compared with theoretical calculations. The agreement between experiment and theory is generally within 5%.
